10/22/22 Update: New ownership. This is a sad day for me. I never EVER leave bad reviews. Staff is still friendly and helpful, at least.. But here is an unbiased take from a semi-regular:
The menu isn't "just" updated; they now make items completely differently from before. No more ramen (makes sense, with a ramen specialty restaurant being in the same strip mall). Volcano role is no longer deep fried and now has cream cheese in it, with a mystery glob piled on top... My partner did not find it appetizing, and I can't eat dairy, so it literally went to waste. Dynamite roll, which used to be inside out and have a spicy oil mixed in with the fish, has now been converted into a flavorless lazy maki salmon roll with hot sauce poured over it. Tempura was still okay. Overall disappointed.
12/17/19 Update: Still amazing food, great service. Have eaten here 3 times (4 if you include take out) and I keep finding something new to try on the menu without disappointment. Also, they tempura fry the ENTIRE volcano roll (and some other rolls, apparently). First time I've seen that, and it is AMAZING
Original review: We will definitely be coming back! Great service. Love the atmosphere. The food was thoughtfully flavored and balanced, which is hard to find, even at other Japanese restaurants. Their treatment of egg was great too, whether in their sashimi or in their ramen (it wasn't just a soft boiled egg thrown in). My boyfriend ordered the ramen and I am already craving the broth again!
There is something for everyone (my boyfriend definitely prefers fried, cooked rolls and I prefer nigiri or sashimi).
Don't let the gorgeous look of the place intimidate you. Everyone was very down to earth and you can tell they love what they do.
Very happy to have this spot down the...
Read moreHere's the complete run down from a sushi maniac! We walk in and sit at the sushi bar. Did chef say hello? Nope, instead of greeting us or even acknowledging us he sat down on a bucket and went straight to the cell phone! So we can't ask him about the food, we'll ask our server. She doesn't know what the best selling roll is and also doesn't know if the Tuna Tataki is good. It wasn't. Bland, dry, and covered in old bay seasoning. So we order some rolls and nigiri (Sushi). Despite being on the menu Toro is not available. Ever. Our server said it didn't sell. Oh, neither is sea urchin. It's also still on the menu but not available. Anyhow, our food arrives and the ginger is dark brown at the edges. My roll was ok at best but the main flavor was the dirty grease from the deep fryer. My nigiri was decent but my mackerel was less than half the size of all my other sushi. You could see the rice poking out all around it! I would like to note that our server was incredibly kind and cheerful. She was attentive and filled our waters without being asked. I can't name drop her because she never introduced herself. All in all it was decent at best. We definitely won't be returning when there's dozens of other options in town.
Edit: Owner responded and said she would address issues. Bumped from 2 stars to 4 stars!...
Read moreHorrible experience I got with my family. Our food came at different times, food wasnât good, our server seem like she didnât know what she was doing and we understand that part but there was another guy with her that seem like some kind of manager instead of help her was making things harder for her. He started to argue with her in front of us, my brother and mom got their food first even before the appetizer, their soup was cold, half an hour passed and my nephew got his food, which was wrong, another half hour and my food came incomplete and mixed with other sushiâs that my brother asked, and more time passed and we still didnât had my big brotherâs food, this guy was always mean and disrespectful everytime he approached our table and we tried to explain and still was very disrespectful and...
