Great Wall — Restaurant in Albany

My wife and I love the food here; it is always excellent, cooked to order and done in a timely fashion. They will even deliver! The last time we called for the delivery they kept giving me the runaround about whether they could accept a check (I could not use my card since payday was the next day but I wanted Chinese then and so wanted to pay with a check which would be good by the time the banks were open the next day for deposit); they kept asking if I could pay in cash or come by and pick it up. They then tried to get my order but I wanted to know first if they would accept a check, and the lady hung up on me. I called back (I work in customer service and don't like confrontation, I am extremely polite on the phone) and finally got an answer: they no longer accept checks because they have had too many people give them bad checks, which is understandable. I would have accepted this answer if they had given it to me up front, but them hanging up on me left a bad taste in my mouth and it will be a while...

I ordered the sweet and sour pork w/ house lo mein and egg roll combo. I was awful awful awful...did I mentioned it was awful. The noodles had a sharp bitter taste. They were also starchy which means they were over cooked. The lo mein had exactly 2 shrimps in it. If there were pork and beef in it well I didn't see it. I did recognize the chicken I think. I would guess it was about 1/8 to 1/4 cup of meat in the house lo mein. The egg roll was awful as well.The cabbage was over cooked and bitter tasting too. TIP: Be aware their drivers are not allowed to carry change for delivery. So try to have the exact amount you are charged. Years ago this restaurant's food was actually decent but not anymore. So I wanted Chinese tonight and normally we go to Guangzhou but I decided to try a different place. I haven't eaten here in years and I mean some years. So I decided to give it a try and I am so glad that I did. I got the MooGooGaiPan with fried rice and egg roll and it was delicious. So Much better than the other place. This will now be my goto for MooGooGaiPan and I may try other dishes. The staff was super nice and there were young guys in there playing games on their computer. Just overall...
