Mikata's food is pretty good as far as the standard hibachi goes. Family members and friends who were there with me and others who have gone at other times before stated that the sushi and other items were/are also of good quality. It does seem to be a tad expensive, but I don't know what the average cost is in the Albany, Georgia, area forJapanese food. Oh and drink refills aren't free! (Didn't know that until I got my check.)
The two chefs that served our party put on a really good show. Considering our party consisted of people from about 10 years old to people over 80, I think they did an excellent job of catering to the crowd. The servers were very polite and the only issue I had with the service was I think the waiters and waitresses could have been a tad bit more present.
I will say that we had a person with a food allergy in our party and the chef was more than happy to make sure that that person did not have any issues. You know sometimes an establishment will make people feel a bit extra if they ask for things that will possibly just keep them alive. There were even a few other people who had some food preferences and again the chef just rolled with the punches with a smile on his face and kept on serving. Honestly, I was impressed that the chef that was serving our area/section was even able to remember whose preference was whose.
My only real hang up with Mikatas was the atmosphere. It was a bit dark, a bit dinghy, and a tad dusty. For the price, I feel like it might be time for a bit of an update.
If it were possible I would rate the place a 3.75 star rating. The food was good and the people who provided our service were great.
Thanks Mikatas for making the birthday girl's...
Read moreI did research online since we just moved to area and Mikata seemed to have some good reviews. Before I begin the food was good and the cook was extremely nice and fun. Our problem was our waitress. She had an attitude from the beginning. We kept thinking it would get better but it did not. At the end of the meal when she is going to be bringing our tickets to us; she then is friendly (which I cannot stand). We get our ticket and she has the tip already on the ticket. I asked her why and she says it is their policy on parties of 4 or more. We did not see this on the menu. I said well that explains your attitude and service with us. She became very defensive and argumentative so my husband ask to see the Manager. After arguing about that she went to get him. He comes in with a very complacent tone and ask what happened. We told him and he then begins to make excuses that waitresses don't get paid much and I said that is no excuse for being rude to customers. My husband then said something about the tip being added on and he says that is their policy. My husband said so we should have split the check and the manager says no "it is based on how many are in your party". So if we had split the check she would have added her tip to each check and he said yes. I have never heard of anything so ridiculous in my life. I finally just said you don't even care and it is very obvious. Told him we had read reviews and that was why we came there. He didn't seem to care. Made it clear we would not be back and would be writing a review. Needless to say we will not be returning. If food is bad when you go, we give it another chance but there is no excuse for being...
Read more0 stars. The number 9 on the menu costs $31.95. When I received my bill. The price of $31.95 was scratched out, and $38.95 was handwritten on top of it. I questioned it, and the lady at the front stated the server was to tell us that it was an upcharge of $7.00 when we order our food because the prices had changed but they have not changed it on the menu at that time. I told her the server did not tell us that, and the lady asked who our server was. As soon as she said that, our server walked up to the front counter. The lady asked the server if he told us that there was an upcharge. He looked at me and said, "Yes, I told her about the $5.00 upcharge" And as he is speaking this LIE, I am looking so crazy and the lady said no, it is a $7.00 upcharge. And then I said, "I am no liar, but you standing here in my face and called me a liar because you did not say anything about an upcharge." I told all of them politely...."I don't have a problem with the $7.00 upcharge because I can pay that, but i do have a problem with you calling me a liar. The principle of this conservation is you calling me a liar when, in fact, you are the liar." I walked back to my seat because I felt no need to argue with a person that would tell a lie on me. After a few minutes of returning to my seat, one of the ladies came over to the table and apologized and said the server didn't speak English that good. Well, he definitely does not need to be serving English speaking customers. The service and food sucked. It was not worth what I paid for. Do...
