Perkins American Food Co. — Restaurant in Albert Lea

Edit: August 2025 my son and I attempted perkins again. Sadly we got the same server we did 5 months ago. Again I sat there for 10 minutes before being greeted,and 15 minutes waiting for our drinks to come. (Coffee and orange juice..) Finally those came. Originally we ordered everything at the same time because of not being greeted initially for 10 minutes. (Make it easier on the server too) Our drinks and pies came. The food took over 30 minutes to come.. and I was feeling dizzy, I needed at least some water, but there was no server to be seen. So we ate all our pie and still waited. This server I've had multiple times appears to be on drugs. I don't know what, but she is really out there. She's shaky, quiet, distant, not pleasant. (It's not shy,I know shy; it's odd) When the food came she didn't bring any of the condiments I had asked for originally, and before she could ask or be asked anything, the manager pulled her away about another issue. I never seen either of them again. My food again was COLD. absolutely can't eat cold eggs. So I waited and waited, finally I seen a different server, I fet bad asking her, but tipped her for grabbing the water and condiments and heating up my food. She was a life saver. I was able to at least eat my food and not be hangry too on top of disappointed. At the end, when asked by the manager, I told her how disappointed I was with my experience. She gave me a discount but that doesn't fix a terrible experience two times.. I strongly feel that server needs to be trained or taken off the schedule if she's not into properly serving customers. I believe her name is Sierra. Don't go for dinner is the main thing I'm seeing. review written April 2025: I typically love Perkins when I go! I Always order the California avocado Benedict. Its SOO good! But not today sadly. The food was cold when I got it, all of the toppings were falling off before I even touched it, and the avocados were hard. I didn't get my condiments out till late, and didn't see my server as much as I should have. I understand bad days happen, and she got sat 4 tables in a row, I'm a server too, it's hard somedays. So I'm not writing this review for the service specifically. I'm writing it because the food was not apitizing. I had to order our dessert to go because of not seeing my server, the peanut butter cup on top tasted old and like it had been in a bag with fruity candy! Thats never good! Angela the manager did come and clean our table multiple times, and was VERY HELPFUL and kind! Our server also warmed my coffee cup before she put it on the table and I thought that was a really nice touch too! We will come again, and hopefully next time...

Drove from Austin to get out of town to come eat here. When we arrived we had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. In our section there was about 2 families ahead of us. Our orders were taking within 5 minutes. Oatmeal, bisquit n gravy platter and waffle platter. I think we waited about 30 minutes till our oatmeal arrived and then another 10 minutes for our platters. (New cook) Even though service was not quick it's understandable because they are very short on staff. Food was delicious, my husband ate all his food and he rarely finishes every bite. It was I who barely touched the bisquit and gravy because it was not what I expected it to be. Though I did take a bite of it just to taste it and I did not like it.

Why? Biscuit and gravy should be smothered with the country sauge gravy. It was like a biscuit sandwhich with a splash of gravy at the top. That's the only thing I did not like because it's been months since I have ate this dish and I was disappointed by the presentation of it.

All in all Perkins is still a wonderful place to eat at. Please have patience with the staff when knowing they are short handed. If your waiting please be ready to have your orders to be taken and not decide when your waiter or waitress arrive. The big table of 8 was so loud and irritating me because they was waiting for the last person of their group to arrive and he was late over 15minutes. When their waitress came 10mins after he arrived a few of them was still deciding what the heck to order.

Portion of food was alot. Total came out to 34 bucks. I stacked up our dishes and silverware and wiped up our table. Left a $9.00 tip and went to check out.

I have never had such a poor experience at any place in my life. Between the staffing and the food it was an extremely unpleasant experience. For starters, they're way understaffed with 1 waitress so I tried to be lenient and understand the wait took far too long. However, when I finally received our food, the meals were all cold. My daughter got a $15 salad that had 2 peices of cold small chicken served on a plate of all things making it very awkward to eat. My omelet was warm at best, hashbrowns were lukewarm at best, making what could have been a good meal ok at best. The eggs benedict my bf had was cold with overcooked eggs. The yolks should be runny and they were fully cooked. My youngest daughter had a pancake meal, the pancakes were room temperature at best but fortunately she didn't seem to mind. This was a $60+ dinner and it's unacceptable to be served cold, overcooked food. The teenager at the register was extremely rude and sparky and has no business being customer facing with her attitude. Had to ask multiple times for the manager and when he finally came out, he was ruder than his employee. Mind you neither of them apologized. He instantly started calling me a liar stating "I cooked that salad myself and the chicken is proportioned". He tried to go on about it again where I had to cut him off from trying to insist I was lying again. No one apologized apart from the waitress and it wasn't even her fault. This was an unacceptable behavior from the cashier and manager. I would highly recommend taking your business elsewhere, it's beyond unworth it.
