This Flying Star sits in the northeast heights and therefore caters to a more affluent crowd than many of its counterparts located throughout the city. Consequently, this location is often the busiest as lines often stretch to the front door during rush hours (trust me I know). If in a hurry, or looking to grab a quick bit, just be aware that you may spend a few minutes waiting in line before placing your order. One of the things I always enjoyed about this restaurant are the seasonal menu items. Change is forever constant here, whether it be dessert items or something from the lunch menu, you can always count on Flying Star to bring in new items each season to prevent the restaurant from getting too consistent and stale. The food itself is pretty decent. While living in ABQ I had time to (literally) try everything on the menu, and most items are usually above the typical cafe standard. The best (my opinion) is the Fabulous French Toast which comes made with brioche bread soaked in brown sugar caramel glaze, topped with strawberries, bananas, and house-made whip cream. If looking to indulge in something loaded with carbs and sugar, one can't go wrong ordering the Fabulous French Toast. Though, many of the menu and dessert items carry a heftier price tag than what you'd usually expect to see at counter service restaurants. Flying Star is nonetheless a well established local food chain that largely lives up to the reputation it has established for itself over the past three decades. The food is good, the desserts are plentiful, and the place provides a good atmosphere to relax and unwind (if you don't mind the noise of restaurant chatter). Also, should you choose to visit, do the servers and other waiting customers in line a favor and don't order a milkshake. For it takes a tedious amount of time for the staff to make and significantly halts the progression of the line. There is a Cold Stone, DQ, and Munchies all located within a one-mile radius of this restaurant; so please go to one of those places if looking to indulge on a cold...

While the staff is often praised for their friendliness, some patrons have experienced inconsistencies in service quality. Read moreI DoorDash and happened to get an order for this location. There is no “pick up orders/mobile orders” or any other signage like the other locations. I went up to the “quick fix” area as that is what I do at the other locations. Everyone was just cutting to get cashed out. I had the displeasure of being discriminated by Trinity and the white haired man; didn’t have a name tag . The interaction between them was very distasteful and seemed very prejudiced. I am not sure if it was since I was a “DoorDasher” or because of my skin color, I say this since this is what happened: I stand there waiting for someone to pay attention to me, trinity straight up looked at me, made eye contact looked me up and down then proceeded to ask the white couple next to me if they have been helped. They stated they were and she just walked away! At this point, I am upset with being flat out ignored, the white haired man steps up to the register in front of me and asks if I have been helped. I say no, and he asks me to step away so he can assist others. I get more upset now and state I am just there for a DoorDash order and if I can just have it. Again the white haired man asked me to move and trinity yells out what is the name, I say the name and she said I’ll get it, she grabs it and just plops it on the counter and walks away. I am mentioning all this since they never knew I was a doordash person, what if I was a patron that day? This is flat out discrimination and TERRIBLE customer service should be corrected immediately. I should not go into an establishment and feel upset about any interaction between the staff as a “DoorDash person” or as a brown skinned individual! Again, this must be addressed and I expect to be reached out about...
