Decided to try out this place today for convenience. What a disappointment! Lack of basic service etiquette, joking around behind the counter while ignoring customers standing right in front of them ready to order. You will have a better experience at Starbucks just down the road where service is prompt and drinks not bland and larger. Had to wave to one of them to order, talking about awkward, almost walked out. They see you but pretend not to see you, and won't initiate to take your order. Not sure why, but this coffee shop gives off such pretentious vibes. You sell coffee, a commodity that most people can make at home. Is it really that hard to take an order promptly from a waiting customer? Stop being so snobbish. Most people prefer order then wait... rather than wait... order, wait again. The entire service staff lacks proper training; no business owner that I know ignores customers while joking around amongst themselves. I can't believe this place is related to Little Bear, to which I visit frequently. The Matcha latte was sandy, luke warm, no sweetness whatsoever, basically sucking on green tea powder. Made with little care or training. Please focus on quality of product and service, and you will attract more customers.
Revised from 1 to 3 stars based on owner feedback. Felt like an idiot standing at the counter, when no one behind the counter cared to ask: Have you been helped? Even after making eye contact multiple times. I couldn't understand why they were all ignoring me on purpose. The owner's explanation made sense, will give the shop another try. If there was a dedicated person on rotation at the counter for ordering, it would have made this first time...
Read moreKendra, the barista is the type of employee you want to work at a café. Her superb customer service makes it a lively experience for anyone who is looking to enjoy a cup of coffee with a friendly smile and attitude. She knew her products, she sold us on the matcha guava lemonade or something like that. But it was slamming (that’s east coast slang for really good). She was definitely friendly and responded perfectly when she couldn’t except bills over 20. It be a loss for this establishment if they lost this kind soul. In fact, if I were to open my own café, I’d try to poach her. If she asks for a raise give it, 5 star quality character hard to come around.
The donut and the scone were amazing. I’d order a dozen if I could. The vanilla late complimented the scone very nicely.
The ambience is perfect for working or socializing. I highly recommend this...
Read moreI returned to ABQ after a five-month hiatus in DC and almost immediately wanted to revisit Heatwave. They are still super cute with a quasi-friendly vibe and now have WiFi which means I can dig into work there. However, I was disappointed to find they had completely changed their pastry chef. The scones used to be fantastic — unusually soft and luxurious on the inside. They are now dry and fully iced and one bite hurt my stomach. Hopefully, they’ll diversify their offerings so that they have more than just one non-dessert offering (the croissant) and a less fattening milk option (they have nut versions and whole milk). The London fog was fine albeit also too sweet. I’ll give them another chance bc they’re a local mom and pop shop, but I hope they can find greater balance in the menu and continue to work on their...
