An excellent Japanese restaurant that I have tried many times. There are plenty of traditional Sashimi alongside delightful Americanized sushi rolls. The rolls my family have enjoyed are the Hip Hop (shrimp tempura), Spider (soft shell crab), and Cowboy (spicy tuna) to name a few of our favorites. There are more I still want to try like the Ranchero. As for the Sashimi, we do the Combo B (chef's choice) and it gets scarfed down quickly as the chef puts our rolls together. Now, while I have mentioned the obvious stars that many of us love so much in Japanese cuisine, I really must add that there are exceptional stars, not supporting roles, but leading ones of their own right. When you come in to the restaurant, you might notice the induction burners (hot plates) on some of the tables. These are for Shabu-Shabu (brothy) and Sukiyaki (more soy sauce based and sweet). These are noodle dishes - soups - that Nagomi brings to the table to cook. And if you have a partner who wants to share, there is a combo of both soups in a split metal bowl. Now keep in mind that there is much more to the menu that my family and I have yet to discover, but we getting blinded by lights of Nagomi's stars. Soon though... maybe, if only my stomach were bigger. Of note, they close for a couple hours between Lunch and Dinner (1400-1630) and do take a well deserved rest every...
Read moreIf you're looking for a japanese restaurant run by actual japanese people, this is the spot. The sushi was good, I will say japanese ramen is normally salty, thats the japanese way.. but, I think they've toned it down for Americans. I got the nagomi ramen and had very high hopes as tonkotsu miso is my favorite, but it was rather bland, it had broccoli in it which totally sapped all the meaty flavor you should get. My wife got the curry ramen which was tasty but once again was missing the saltiness that you should have with japanese food. Also, the soft boiled ajitama eggs you normally get with ramen were just regular hard boiled eggs, not marinated, and overcooked (see green ring on the yolk). So the food was only 3 stars but the rest of the experience is 5 stars. I'll go again to figure out if I went on an off day. They did have a little area with japanese snacks and a box of free japanese magazines which was pretty...
Read moreWe used to live in Torrance, California, where there are so many great authentic Japanese restaurants big and small. So we know what authentic Japanese food tastes like. Last night, for the first time, we took a chance and ate at Nagomi here in Albuquerque. Wow!! The food was absolutely great! I had no idea that Albuquerque, out of all places, has such a great, authentic Japanese eatery, owned and operated by a Japanese family. We had Chef's Bento Box which was superb. The one I ordered had grilled mackerel which was absolutely out of this world, succulent and tasty. This Bento Box also had great assorted tempura as well as tuna sashimi and California rolls. Everything was so fresh! This is not a fancy restaurant. It's very casual, yet cozy. I highly recommend Nagomi. The owner talked to us after we ate. He was so friendly and thanked us...
