To Whom It May Concern,
As a former Partner with Starbucks, I am writing to formally express my deep disappointment regarding a recent experience at one of your store locations. Over the past two weeks, I have been a regular patron at this location, typically visiting during morning hours without issue. However, during my lunch break today, I encountered an interaction that was not only disheartening but also inconsistent with the standards of customer service I came to know and uphold during my tenure with the company.
Upon entering the store, I selected a seat to relax and read during my break and then proceeded to the register to request a cup of water. I intended to make a purchase before departing, as has often been my practice. However, I was immediately informed by the barista—identified as Aspen—that water would not be provided without a prior purchase. I expressed surprise, citing my experience as a former Partner and the long-standing commitment Starbucks has had to hospitality and community service. Aspen reiterated that water is reserved for paying customers only.
I requested to speak with the shift supervisor or manager on duty to confirm whether there had been a policy change. Caitlyn, who appeared to be the supervisor, confirmed the same stance, stating that access to water, restrooms, and even seating was now conditional on making a purchase. Despite explaining that I intended to place an order before returning to work, I was met with a tone that I found dismissive, condescending, and wholly inconsistent with the values Starbucks claims to uphold.
As someone who was once proud to be named Partner of the Quarter, this interaction was especially disheartening. The lack of courtesy, the rigid and unwelcoming delivery of policy, and the overall treatment I received were not reflective of the company culture I once knew. If this is indeed a new policy, its implementation—particularly the tone and approach with which it is enforced—warrants immediate review.
I will be documenting this experience in a formal letter to Starbucks’ corporate offices and strongly urge a reevaluation of how such policies are communicated to both staff and customers. Regrettably, this experience has led me to reconsider my patronage of Starbucks altogether—a decision I never anticipated making given the high regard I once held for this company.
Sincerely, Chance Taelor Former Partner, Starbucks...
Read moreWasn't super impressed this time... normally my experience is pretty average for Starbucks. This time I went in, placed my order, asked to use my reward... then the cashier scanned my card and told me the new balance so I scanned it again thinking he used the reward and that adjusted the price... he then explained to me that I didn't have enough money on my card for my order... after I asked to use my reward... which you know that's one thing totally fine he probably didn't hear me or understand. But then I went to go wait for my order where the two baristas were talking about what bad employees they are and mocking their supervisor "that's against company policy, that's against company policy" and continue to talk amongst themselves about what bad employees they are... they then hand me the wrong drink. Now I've worked for Starbucks and wrong drinks happen and I have no issue with either correcting the mistake politely or just accepting the wrong drink because it's often still something I enjoy anyway... however I felt uncomfortable asking for them to remake my drink after they just spent upwards of 5 minutes making the wrong drink for me while opening saying how bad they are at their jobs... I hate giving poor reviews for places I do visit semi-often but I mean the employees have to be aware of what their customers are saying AND of what their customers...
