Royal India Bistro — Restaurant in Alexandria

After such a long wait, there is an Indian restaurant in Alexandria! The food is wonderful, tastes authentic and we loved it. Definitely going back!! There are plenty of vegetarian and meat options on the menu. Can't wait to try everything out. But, as others are saying there are some issues with the waiting staff. Waiting staff don't have good understanding about the items on the menu. But it is quite understandable. The food on the menu must be new to them as well. Indian dishes have so many ingredients and might sound different. I am sure they will improve in time. Even though we were disappointed slightly because of the waiting staff initially, when the food arrived after the long wait, our faces lit up!!! The food was totally worth the effort and wait. If you don't like this part, you can always order pickup. Food gets ready with in 20- 50 minutes.

Really excited to have an Indian restaurant in the area so checked it out for lunch today. Wasn’t busy (maybe 5 tables). Told waitress we needed a minute to look over the menu and she didn’t come back to us for almost 30 mins. She even went outside for a smoke break while we were waiting in plain sight (as did the manager/owner). In her defense it didn’t look like she had a lot of help but like I previously said it wasn’t busy. There was one other girl running out drinks and she seemed to be doing a good job of that. Once we flagged down our waitress to finally take our order she apologized and said they’d put a rush on it since we had been there a while. The food did come out quickly and was really good. I know I’ll be back because it’s the only Indian place in town and I love Indian cuisine. I may just do to-go next time until they get the service part down. I rarely write reviews but since this is a new restaurant and was excited about it I’ll let everyone know what to expect. Understaffed waitresses that don’t know what is on the menu, can’t clarify anything on the menu, and won’t get anyone to clarify anything for you as well as slow and disorganized cooks. Which means an excessively long wait for your food. It took us 5 times asking for a drink and when it was received the glass was only 3/4 full. The mango lassie is watery and not fresh. Three tables came in after us ate paid and left way before we even received our food. Another individual came in waited and then left after waiting a lengthy time. All of my food didn’t come out at the same time so I wasn’t able to enjoy my food the way I wanted. The food was ok at best.
