My friend ordered us Mio Nonno takeout and I was so impressed! She ordered us the Rucola salad, Short Rib pasta, and lasagna. When the food arrived via Uber Eats, the food was still very warm and I thought the portions were perfect. The taste of the food was very good.
The Rucola salads: fresh arugula leaves, three medium sized crispy goat cheese balls, walnuts, julienned granny Smith apples and a delicious honey vinaigrette and basalmic glaze. We loved it! Good portion size, fresh ingredients and such a delicious salad. The ingredients were not overpowering together and loved how the glaze was not too acidic or vinegar-y.
Then we shared both the short rib pasta and lasagna. The short rib pasta came in a sauce with different types of mushrooms and about 7 good sized ravioli looking pastas. They reminded me of stuffed dumplings. The sauce was savory and flavorful but not salty, and the pasta was stuffed to the brim with finely shredded short rib. Overall a very hearty dish. I'm so glad we shared, because just a couple of pastas filled us up!
The lasagna was surrounded by a rich, tomato sauce filled with pieces of tomato. At first I thought it would be acidic but the first bite proved me so wrong! The tomato sauce was delicious, ever so slightly sweet and mild. The lasagna itself was also very good. I thought the ratio of cheese and meat was perfect. The sauce was a perfect compliment to the lasagna.
The food also came with focaccia bread and olive oil, and the bread was so soft and pillowy. Excellent way to soak up the extra sauces too!
Most other Italian places have overly salted food, or tastes like "food from a bag" but not Mio Nonno. Everything we ordered was perfectly seasoned and delicious. We were both so impressed with the food and I can't wait to try their other dishes.
I saw that Mio Nonno has other locations, and we are so happy there is one in Allen for us to enjoy. I thanked my friend for the excellent recommendation and I will tell my...
Read moreI wanted Italian so decided to try this place out as all recommendations pointed us here. I arrived with my family of 4 around 5:15pm and the place was full, but we were seated quickly as there were still a couple tables available. As soon as we were seated, more people came and they had to wait outside since there’s no waiting area. This place is very small and cramped with tables. Be careful, you could hit your neighbors when you get up.
The waitress (Haley) came with water and we told her we needed a few more minutes. She came back a few minutes later and we asked her about some of the meals and she didn’t t seem to know what’s in the meals. Anywho, I ordered the Aragosta - Lobster stuffed ravioli, chopped shrimp, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, tomatoe-cream sauce. My family ordered the Nonno’s, Alla Crema, and Alla Moda. The food came out pretty quick. Another waitress brought us our food and our waitress came back after we started eating our food before she came and asked if we wanted parmesan cheese on our meals. The Aragosta I had only had 4 raviolis. This is the first time I ever finished my meal since it was a small portion. But besides that, the flavor was good. The rest of my family said their meal was good.
The only reason I gave it a three star is due to the waitress. The food was good but not great. Did I mention, the waitress never came back to refill my drink or asked if we wanted more bread. Never checked to see how we enjoyed our food.
Overall, it was just an okay experience. Would I come back, I’m not sure. It was pretty pricey for the amount of food you get. For a party of four, it was $75 (without tip) for four dishes. Oh, one more thing, there were no soup or salad with your meal like most other...
Read moreThis place used to be really good. I can recall a time when I would have given 5 stars across the board. The truth is that isn’t the case anymore. Our server was a woman who was old enough to know how to offer good service…. But she didn’t. She didn’t offer children menus even though we had 3 children, I had to ask for it after we realized the children’s offerings aren’t listed on the normal menu. She didn’t bring bread, she didn’t take our drink orders and she didn’t bring my husbands food out, or inform us that there was a problem and just let us sit there waiting for it until finally the rest of us began to eat while he waited- finally the server came back to tell him they made the wrong dish. My vodka pasta which used to be spicy and flavorful, was bland. It was only slightly more flavor than my 1yr old granddaughter’s buttered pasta. My 5 yr old grandson who is hardly a good connoisseur said his Alfredo “ “tasted like salty milk noodles” and he wasn’t wrong. Also. The pizza oven is merely an ornament on which to set styrofoam cups. The booth along the wall had a large split in the vinyl that pinched my grandson, and he had to sit on one of the throw pillows to keep it from pinching him repeatedly. The chandelier was dusty,. It definitely is a place that looks better at night. We were a party of 4 adults, 3 small children and an infant. The server added gratuity - which I’m not saying we wouldn’t have tipped, but it wouldn’t have been 20%. All in all I can’t see a reason to ever go back. Can’t wait to try some of the newer places around and put this place to bed with the Tesla charging station...
