We met for an after work happy hour with a visiting group of associates. Even though the upper deck didn't seem to be open, they directed our group upstairs so that we could have more room. I recommend this place for such activities. After work or happy hour times, accommodate a large group especially if you get up on the top deck
The service is fast and responsive. I'm not sure if our server had anyone else in the restaurant or not, but it seemed that he was always there to take care of what we needed.
We mostly ordered hors d'oeuvres to go with our drinks Come And we're giving good suggestions Such as the wings Pretzel bites.
We tried two different flavors of wings, the Korean Hot Wings, and we also tried the lemon pepper. They came out very quickly and were hot to the touch served with a choice of dipping sauce. The lemon pepper wings we're not spicy and were a good choice for the group that didn't want spicy foods. The Korean BBQ wings, on the other hand, are fairly spicy that would grow on you as you ate more. The wings good-sized were cooked till they were falling off the bone as you want the wings to be.
The pretzel bites came out hot. They were soft and warm, and when I went to accompaniment for the beer.
The spiced fry appetizer played was it generous portion of hot and crispy fries. They also came at the choice of sauces along with the condiments on the table.
A few of us did order entrees. I ordered the fish sandwich. The menu mentions it is the fish of the day, and the day I ordered, it was haddock. I'm not sure if that changes or not on a daily basis. The fish sandwich came out fresh and warm and had very little on it other than a bit of slaw. It was grilled, not fried, which I prefer. The taste of the fish was fine, but after eating it and left a bad taste in my mouth, it was not like a normal fish sandwich.
I would advise one of their burgers over the fish. Some of the other Independence raved about those.
There is also an open bar that is well stocked and any drink can be ordered. They do have some house specialty cocktails which when sampled were well made and...
Read moreTo start the rare tap list was more than impressive and a chance to sip the memories of my recent move from Virginia washed over me perfectly while enjoying a Triple Crossing IPA. I also had my first JREAM from Burley Oak which is a blackberry cobbler sour and is now easily within the top 10 beers Ive ever had. Im still trying to figure out how they got the pie crust flavor in that glass. I say all this because anytime a beer garden can secure taps that cannot as easily be attained in local grocery stores they have my attention and the Barleygarden at the Avalon did just that. The atmosphere amongst the mixed live/play community is a new trend in the suburbs and one I am still trying to feel out. Parking here can sometimes be a hassle but in less popular times securing spots in the many garages can come easier. Walking around after a few beverages into some of the shops could be dangerous to your wallet after a few adult beverages and only too convenient if you already live a few steps away. Either way it adds for a fun evening and one I only further enjoyed given they allowed our pup on the patio. We were waited on diligently even though they were very busy and my glass was never...

First, the goods: cool location, setting and menu, the food was excellent for the most part. The Trotter Sausage & Kraut was good, the kraut, potatoes and mustard were excellent however the sausage was pretty bland especially when compared to the rest of the dish. Our other guest had the Turkey Red Pepper Sandwich Which was A++ and the Brussels sprouts were to die for!
The bads: the bar was much slower than one would expect for a not so busy evening. The sausage situation again, but worse, about guest requested a 4oz pour and was given a full 8 and “given the option” to pay for it or not after he was half way through the drink when the server was bringing out bill. When he said why would I pay for something I didn’t order the server said “no problem” and took the half drank glass of beer and removed it from the bill. I’m flabbergasted to say the least!!
In summary, I’m looking forward to trying this place again but will never allow this server to wait on me here or anywhere else I may ever see him again. Beware, if your service is less than reasonable, at least you should be able to count on some good food although your experience may be as awkward...
