The Cape Restaurant & Beach Bar — Restaurant in Alpharetta

I took my South African boyfriend here for lunch for his birthday because we came here last year (when it was Biltong Bar) for his birthday as well and we liked the Biltong and the Cape Town theme. And I did have a good time despite my experience yesterday. I ordered the Spicy Peri Peri tacos and I have to say they were pretty disappointing because they weren’t spicy at all. If you’ve had peri peri sauce before it’s pretty spicy so there must’ve only been a minimal amount used. I could’ve gotten extra sauce for 3$. Additionally I’m not a big fan of coconut and asked if I could have regular basmati rice (they have a salmon dish that comes with plain rice so this should have been doable) but I was told no they couldn’t substitute it. When I got the “coconut rice” I was relieved because apart from a little sweetness it didn’t really tasted like coconut at all. I maybe could’ve asked for more peri peri sauce but when you’re already paying 24$ for two spicy tacos, your not gonna pay an extra just for it to taste the way it should’ve tasted anyways. ALL OF THIS I could’ve overlooked. I liked the drinks and the Shrimp Tempura roll. But the MOST DISAPPOINTING WAS OUR WAITER TAYLOR. After our meal on the patio HE showed us where the bathrooms were. As I was waiting for my boyfriend to come out of the men’s room, Taylor walked right by me to a co worker and is complaining about how much we tipped him. Our bill was 157 and I tipped 22. About 13% which is what I felt was fair considering my experience with the food and also he didn’t remove our appetizer dishes or empty drink glasses or even take our menus until the end of our meal which I didn’t like because we were outside and it attracted bugs. We even had a bug fly into our water glass because of the dishes and had to ask him to get us a new one but he still didn’t remove the rest of the dishes we were obviously done with. Rather than complaining out the tip as if we wronged him I would’ve happily explained why I tipped that way but really he should’ve thought about the job he did as a reflection of the tip…or at least wait until he’s sure his customers are gone. I really wanted to walk up to him and tell him to remove the WHOLE TIP for his rudeness but I didn’t want to ruin my boyfriends birthday lunch because he did have a good time. I’d consider coming back here maybe ordering different but definitely would not want to be waited on by...

We visited on Fat Tuesday as it was advertised by Avalon as having their rooftop open and a Mardi Gras drink special. Unfortunately, the rooftop wasn't open which wasn't a big deal but disappointing since it was such a nice night. When we entered at around 6:20 only about a 1/3 of the restaurant was full but it took at least 10 minutes to get a server to our table. He wasn't aware of the Mardi Gras drink special which was odd but he did find out and then took our order by 6:30 and shortly thereafter we ordered our appetizer and meal. The appetizer came out and shortly thereafter the meal but we were still waiting on our drinks. It was almost 7 pm before we received our drinks from the bar and I had noticed that two other parties had left their tables. Meanwhile a table of 4 that came in after us had the same issue although they were served a little faster and even got their bill by the time we received our drinks. I understand everyone is short staffed but then don't seat everyone if they can't be served. We paid $100 for a drink each, two appetizers and one order of shrimp tacos which I won't be doing again. I really wanted to love this place but it wasn’t the best experience I was hoping for. I went with a group since it was my friends birthday dinner. We were seated pretty quickly but getting our food & the actual dining experience was eh. We ordered drinks but it took forever to get them, by the time we got our drinks we had our orders ready but we decided to get an appetizer. It took foreverrr to come out. We order our entrees - the food itself was good. One of our friends didn’t realize that he was getting a WHOLE fish so he politely sent it back, he didn’t want to order anything else but the waiter didn’t even try to recommend anything. We saw the waiter put it back on the line under a heating lamp, not sure if they just gave it to someone else. He had also ordered a glass of wine, turns out they were out of wine glasses so they brought him a plastic cup with wine lol. Another friend ordered a side of mayo & mustard, but they were out of mustard lol. One of us ordered a second drink & it took forever to get it.
