Tavern On the Greys — Restaurant in Alpine

I was almost afraid to order because it does look like a hole in the wall dive bar. But one thing I've learned from all my travels- dont judge a book by its cover! Some of THE best food has often been in hole in the walls or food trucks. And this place is no exception. I ordered the Bacon Black n Blue burger- one of the best burgers ever. And I'm typically not a burger person. The sweet potato fries and regular fries were delicious w/great flavor. Atmosphere like a local pub- so you get the local vibe. I am from New York, and have subsequently resided in several of the best "Food Cities" in America. Now we have a motorhome, travel extensively, and ofter eat in towns where to quality of the food leaves something to be desired. However, this Tavern in Alpine Wyoming served me the best burger I ever had. Michael the bartender actually asked me how I liked my burger. I said medium-rare, and it was PERFECT. The meat was outstanding, and even the bacon and pepper jack cheese was top notch. I will be in the area visiting the Tetons, Yellowstone and other attractions. Food was terrible the Philly cheese stk was dry from the top of the bun to the inside which was put on the grill so long it was dried out .You couldn't chew the meat there was a 1mushroom 1 tiny piece of green pepper and one onion.The hamburger we ordered was on a small bun with beef?? Don't think so tasted horrible like veggie burger and way over cooked.The fries were all over cooked.The food took 40 minutes and no one else was eating.We have eaten here 2 or 3 times a year since it opened.This was the last time.Good luck if you decide...
