It's been a while since we've gotten North Shore, a family favorite for a long time. Tonight unfortunately was a fairly terrible experience.
For starters, no one was wearing a face mask, a health code and OSHA violation, while in a pandemic and under a state required mask mandate. I could not care less about politics in this situation, I do care that employees are potentially, and likely spreading their germs to each other and their customers.
We ordered 4 lg teriyaki chicken w/Mac salad, my husband paid and was given two boxes in a bag and then they turned to the next person in line. He waited for a minute thinking they were still working on the rest of our order, they weren't. So he spoke up and told them that he'd only gotten half of our order, the staff prepared two more boxes and bagged them up. It was after we returned home that we found they'd given us pork in the second two instead of chicken. 🙄 Gross.
I'd like to say this is the first time we've had a bad experience here, but it's not. North Shore used to be amazing years ago, this time the chicken didn't even taste right, and neither did the Mac salad, it was pretty watery.
When you add it all up; the blatant disregard for public health, the lackluster service, the sub par food, along with the jacked up price of the plates, it all totals us not visiting again for a long time, if ever. Did I really fork over $60 for this?...
Read moreBeing an islander myself, I was excited to find this little gem. Unfortunately it was not as good despite the reviews. The place was packed, an hour prior to closing. The original door was being worked on and you can tell there is mold on the insulation, it was not even closed off with plastic.
The kalua pork was very fatty, barely any meat, it was also bland. The chicken was a bit dry but had good flavor. We ordered one combo with two mains and 3 sides, we asked for one of each and the container was filled with 1/3 salad then a little bit of Mac and rice, the Mac was bland too, needed more apple cider and less sugar, tasted like pure mayo. But seriously, all the meat with so little rice? I mean come on… that’s not very Hawaiian is it.
On top of that, when I woke up the next day, my hands were completely swollen despite the lack of salt, idk what it was but we are guessing it’s the msg.
The service was good, people were friendly, lots of locals. Since it’s a small town I’m guessing they really haven’t had real Hawaiian food, which understandably makes sense on why it was...
Read moreCruising through town on a road trip, we stumbled upon this gem of a spot. The reviews looked decent, so we figured, "Why not?" Let me tell you, best call ever. The food here is next-level awesome. We went all in and ordered everything on the menu—it's a small menu, but every single thing was straight-up fire. No joke, we couldn’t pick a favorite. The pulled pork? Insane. The Korean chicken? Unreal. Even the sides were a total vibe.
The crew running the place is super chill, super friendly—just good people making great food. We were so blown away we could barely string words together to thank them properly. And heads up, this spot gets busy, like, constant flow of hungry folks busy.
If you’re ever rolling through, you have to hit this place up. Don’t sleep on it—it’s the kind of food that stays with you, in the best way....
