Joe K's Restaurant — Restaurant in Alton

We were seated quickly. The booth in the back left was clean. The waitress was not in my opinion very welcoming. I usually can sense when I'd see myself having a conversation with someone. If you know me you know, I don't meet strangers I meet new friends. The salad was not very good. The bacon had a funny taste but I don't complain at restaurants, We just simply paid. We were quick 15 to 20 min after getting food left. My husband paid, came back to the table and asked if I was ready. Me trying to eat French fries as obviously I was hungry said yes. The waiters came over said something to us and looked over the table as if to see if we tipped. (We used a debit card and did in fact tip). She had an irritated kind of demeanor about her. I get it I work in a tip industry but thats just rude. Won't be going back. Here's another tip..Just because someone has alot of piercings doesn't mean you won't get tipped. Today was the fourth or fifth time I've visited Joe K's over the last year. Staff is friendly and they sure draw a crowd to this place! Dining room was full of people and kept clean. This is a breakfast and lunch "Diner" style restaurant. I've had both breakfast and lunch and would recommend the slinger and big country for breakfast. For lunch, the Reuben and roast beef sandwich are my top picks. It'd be hard to get a bad plate of food here and the service has been consistent and relatively quick. I do not recommend the fish n chips. The portion is small for the cost and may have been a timing thing but my fish and fries tasted like old grease. The cook definitely did not let the frier warm back up before dropping the food as the grease taste soaked all the way through the batter too. We came through while visiting Relatives in Godfrey and wanted a local restaurant to eat breakfast. First off, it was a ZOO! Very loud and hard to cary on any conversation without yelling. So over crowded, no order to being seated, and they were seating customers/couples together that were in separate parties that didn't arrive together 😮. I don't think I've ever seen that done. It would have made me sooo uncomfortable to have that done. We had a nice waitress, but she was not attentive. We waited forever for reills, to place the order and for the order to come. The biscuits and gravy was not good. Definitely came out of the bag and they added soooo much pepper. The hash browns we exactly like Denny's, undercooked and I don't care for that.
