I live approximately 1.5 miles from Mister Donut, so I have to use a lot of self control. I could easily add several inches to my waist if I ate here as often as I would like.
My favorite donuts are their Chocolate Long John and Old Fashion. I love the flavor of their chocolate icing, it pairs well with the soft fluffy donut. The glaze on the Old Fashioned donut is super sweet. It reminds me of the icing on a bunt cake.
Other favorites would be the donut holes. A bag full of a dozen holes is equally as good as a whole donut. Also, their Biscuits and Gravy are just as good as your local diner or country farmers wife's offerings. They offer full and half orders, depending on how hungry you are.
The decor is a throw back to the retro 70's. I love it, because my favorite color is orange and it just makes me feel happy when I'm waiting in line.
The service is super fast. The staff is always friendly and polite, just like you'd expect at a mom & pop...
Read moreLong story/short ... They were closing in 20 minutes, when I stopped in on a whim from running errands, on Saturday but when I asked if I would be holding them up, they very enthusiastically asked me what I wanted, asked me to sit down, what size coffee, APOLOGIZED for having to use styro. cups ... brought me a plate with my cinnamon roll ... Not a HINT of feeling like I was putting them out by coming in so late ... sweet as could be. God bless both you girls AND (I'm guessing your boss) ... for a most refreshing snack & a most welcome, cheerful experience. lol ... Good thing it was long story/ short, huh? And really ... no need to apologize for the cups ... But it just gave me a feeling that you actually CARE about how your customers feel in this screwed up "situation" we are ALL going through. I am sorry I didn't catch your names, but God bless you all again for making me feel MORE...
Read moreToday I drove 22 miles from St. Louis to Godfrey, Illinois to visit the last remaining Mister Donut in North America! Founded in 1956 by the brother in law of the man who started Dunkin' Donuts, the last remaining shops in America and Canada all closed around 2006 or converted to Dunkin. Mister Donuts are still big in Japan where they are featured in a popular anime. This particular Donut shop was opened in 1980 and still has the vibrant orange retro color scheme popular with the brand. These donuts are all absolutely amazing and if you call yourself a Donut lover than you need to take a pilgrimage to the last Mister Donut in North America! . Check out my tour of the last Mister Donut in North America on next Friday's episode of the STL Donut Tour at...
