I first tried Sam's when I was moving into our new home just outside of Altoona, IA. I hadn't yet finished our kitchen so I was STARVING but didn't want fast food, and found Sam's by accident. I am SO glad that I did. The bartender was very friendly and when I let her know that I hadn't been in before, she was happy to make food recommendations. I decided to go with a bacon cheeseburger, and I am SO glad that I did. The burger was prepared perfectly, and the quality was great. Really good seasoning and the bacon was cooked perfectly!
Since then, I have brought almost every family member that has come to town to visit, as well as taking multiple customers, colleagues, and friends here. My cousin and I come here almost every other weekend and we have yet to be disappointed while Amanda is working. She is friendly, engages with her patrons and has enough decency and self control to pull herself away to get customers their drinks. It seems other employees aren't as self controlled. Also, it seems one of the employees is the only one allowed to make drinks however I think it would be beneficial to sams bar if all bartenders were allowed to do this so they can get customers in and out quicker so you can get more in. Stopped for a quick drink and some onion rings around 4 on a Thursday.
Plenty of seating available- directed to choose seat.
Ordered onion rings and drinks. My friend had a mule, I had a tequila sunrise. I specifically asked to please have very little tequila and the drink was burnt. Not life altering but I did ask and then wasn't able to drink it cause it was too strong.
Onion rings thin cut and yummy. Could have cooked for another 45 seconds. And it was not a very big portion for a full order.
