I've been here several times now and have been very satisfied every time. Last night I was hungry and it was after 9 when a lot of places closed. Fuzzy's was in the same parking lot as Natural Grocers which I had just been to so I decided to stop in. I got shrimp queso tacos, something new on the menu and asked if I could get it as a plate which they accommodated. They asked if I wanted grilled or tempura which basically means fried. I asked if I could get one of each to try out. I was expecting a taco full of little tiny shrimp. Instead the temperature shrimp taco had three good size and decent quality shrimp in a light batter. The grilled shrimp weren't all that grilled and they were cut into smaller pieces but they still had wonderful flavour. I'd love to have the recipe for that sauce they put over that's creamy and garlicky. A taco place I liked in San Diego used a similar sauce and I always loved theirs too.
The beans were average, not bad and not spectacular. I asked for the Mexican fried rice but the kid accidentally gave me the cilantro lime rice. It was okay but not the best I've had. Definitely better than the last time I had it though. I was hoping to get a $2 beer but I guess they only have that during happy hour and it was too late for that so I went went ahead and got a Coors for twice that. It was well worth it in a huge glass and very refreshingly cold. I usually try to eat half my food and take half home but I was hungry and the food was good enough that I ate most of the plate and just had a little bit of fried beans to take home. I'll put them with my breakfast.
In the past I have frequently gotten the migas which they do extremely well and I love the fact that they offer them all day long so that if I get a late start but I'm still in the mood for breakfast they haven't stopped serving them. If you like Migas I recommend theirs. I have also gotten the Mahi tacos and found them to be quite good with very good flavored fish inside. I've also gotten the nachos with brisket. It's listed as an appetizer I think but it's such a huge amount I can only eat about half and take the other half home.
Their prices are good, they're open late and the employees are friendly. You order at the counter and they give you one of those buzzers to go pick up your food from the back window when it's ready. There's a dining area and a bar area. I recommend them and will keep going...
Read moreI had never been there before so I stopped in for lunch. There was no line so I got to order immediately, two tacos and a tea, and it came to…$17 and change, which made me go WTH?? The guy apparently misheard me and thought I ordered two brisket nachos. So he had to fix his error, but unfortunately for the line growing behind me he didn’t know how, so he took off to find the manager and bring her back to do it. Got my receipt and sat down and waited…and waited. After 15 minutes I tell myself, “Surely it doesn’t take 15 minutes to make two friggin’ tacos.” So I went to the window to ask if there was a problem and they said didn’t your page go off, because your order has been sitting here for 10 minutes. And I am going, what pager? Seems the order taker guy didn’t give me one. The lady was nice and remade the tacos immediately since the first ones were cold by then. I sat down to eat and brother, those corn tortilla tacos were TOUGH. I mean shoe leather tough…jerky tough. There was no one-handing those babies, you needed both hands to get a good grip to literally tear off a bite. Of course, when you have to manhandle a taco all the ingredients squish out the far end, so I had to eat most of my tacos off the paper with a spoon. I asked to talk to the manager and told her, Natalie, “First off, my tacos tasted great. But they were THE toughest tacos I have ever eaten, and that is just wrong”, to which she replies, “You’re absolutely right, it shouldn’t be that way.” In the course of my complaint, all she says (three times) is that it shouldn’t be that way. So I finally stopped talking, waiting for her to say something besides what she has said so far, and she just looks at me - no apology, no let me make this right, no nothing. Dead silence from her. The sound of crickets. I gave her several seconds to respond but no dice, so I said, Well you were told, and as I turned to leave I told her I KNEW I should’ve went to Torchy’s. And STILL nothing. Truth be told, I don’t know if I’ll be going to Torchy’s next time or not, but I know where I’m NOT...
Read moreI placed a pick-up order on the app about 5 minutes before our Fuzzy’s opened for breakfast. I arrived at the store about 10 minutes afterwards. When I walked in, I asked the young lady at the bar about my order and she went to the kitchen window to check on it. The three gentlemen in the kitchen said it would be ready soon, so I told the young lady I would wait there for my order so she could do what she needed to do. A few minutes in, I noticed the cook (who I later discovered was the manager, Luis) was cooking flour tortillas. I had ordered soft corn tortillas because I am unable to eat flour; I also have experienced MANY times when this location has given me flour tortillas, despite my request for corn, and I’ve needed them to remake my food.
Hoping to avoid it this time around, I asked Luis to verify that they were using corn tortillas. He snapped at me, “What?! It’s almost ready!” Luis then shook his head and mumbled something under his breath, and then said something to the two men with him. The young man accompanying him in the kitchen then rolled up my tacos and placed them on a tray (even though my order was a to-go order), not looking at me or saying anything. Seeing that they were clearly not going to bag my TO-GO order, I grabbed my tacos and left. “Thank you guys for your kindness!” I shouted as I walked away. As I began to exit the store, I asked the young lady who the manager was…she told me it was Luis (the guy making my food).
I don’t know what Luis was going through this morning, but his attitude toward me was not okay. As mentioned, I’ve had several issues of my order being wrong, so my inquiry was not out of line. Luis’ behavior, however, was. I frequented this Fuzzy’s often…not anymore.
UPDATE: As you can see below, the restaurant owner asked me to reach out to them to discuss further. I sent them an email on October 27, 2023, as instructed. As of November 27, 2023, I have yet to hear anything from this Fuzzy's franchise owner. Conclusion...their response was lip-service,...
