Giving 3 stars because the food was good as usual but the restaurant could us a little better janitorial upkeep than what I've seen recently. And the service was rushed and impatient to explain anything (I hadn't been there for probably a year - seems I remember why now). We were told at 9:05pm after we sat down with our 2 year old and 9 year old after a long day (had been eating 10 min or so- I'm pregnant and with a 2 year old to wrangle had literally eaten 2 bites in 10 minutes) that "they are now closed but feel free to finish up real quick". They then proceeded to tell a father and his two young boys who came in the door one minute later that they were closed and couldn't serve them. Now I've never worked the food industry, but I did work retail many moons ago, and I would never notify someone already in the store before closing that they needed to "hurry up, so we can go home" in so many words. I would also lock the door at closing or pull it partially closed and allow the people inside to finish shopping and escort them out when they were finished. I would never leave the door wide open and then blatantly say "can't help you, it's 2 minute past closing". Customer service is not dead, or at least it shouldn't be. And it's our duty as the old folks around to teach our youth and employees how to provide service. Pretty much every night I assumed I was getting home 60 minutes past closing. We would start the closing processes we were able to execute without being pushy or impeading the service given to those who were still in the store. I'm sure that what we experienced was not cupbop policy or procedure but they need to know their store isn't running at 100% from what I can tell. And the overall customer experience is very important. It will decide if I go back once a month or once a year or two. Not blaming a bunch of 16 year Olds, but also not blaming cupbop cuz they probably don't know. But this experience was...
Read moreWe came here on a Saturday night, for our first time. It's a smaller store but there's plenty of seating for the size and it seems like most people take it to-go. There was a line of about six people before us. The employees were super kind and answered all of our questions as we were leaning more about the menu.
They said that the most popular was the Korean fried chicken. My husband and I both got that on top of the rice, cabbage, and noodles. I went with a level 5 spice. The chicken was really tasty, hot, and cooked very well. The flavor combination of everything with the sauce was so good. The leve 5 sauce was yummy and had the perfect amount of heat for me. The rice was cooked perfectly and the noddles were so good! I think that next time I will do a couple of things differently. 1) I'll do a two menu option bowl with veggies and meat or ask for a side of fresh veggies to get some greens and 2) I'll ask for all the sauce on the side. For my bowl, there seemed to be too much sauce so it did overpower the other flavors. I would rather have my sauces on the side to dip/pour myself.
I will say that the restaurant was lacking on the cleanliness side, hence why I'm giving four stars. The tables were dirty with food from previous customers and where you order your food and see it all in front of you, was dirty as well. It looked like a lot of the meats and the potstickers weren't hot and had been sitting out for awhile too. That was one of the reasons we didn't order the potstickers.
Overall, great flavor and super tasty. We will...
Read moreI recently revisited Cupbop after several years, and while the food was tasty, I couldn't help but notice a few changes that left me with mixed feelings.
Let's start with the positives. Cupbop's unique take on Korean cuisine has always been a treat, and the flavors were just as good as I remembered. The variety of ingredients and the option to customize your bowl make for an exciting dining experience. It's a delicious and satisfying meal.
However, there were a couple of downsides. Firstly, the price. At $17 for lunch, I was expecting a more substantial portion. I remember Cupbop being reasonably priced back in my college days, and the current cost felt a bit steep for the serving size.
Secondly, the portion size seemed smaller than what I recalled. While the flavors were there, I couldn't help but wish for a heartier helping, especially considering the price point.
Another aspect that left me a bit disappointed was the level of customer service. The staff didn't seem particularly helpful or attentive during my visit, which contrasted with my previous experiences.
In summary, Cupbop still offers tasty Korean-inspired food, but I was left with the impression that it's become somewhat overpriced for the portion size. The lack of attentive service also impacted the overall experience. While I enjoyed the flavors, I can only give it a 3 out of 5 stars for...
