I will start off by saying I love uptown and shop at all of the stores around here on a regular basis. I’m obsessed with thrifting and I like that uptown does some of the work for you by selecting up-to-date styles and brands. I can find unique clothing on the cheap in a sustainable way and its kind of fun to dig and find some treasures.
This AF uptown however is the worst of all. This is the one that’s closest to my house, but I can no longer bring myself to spend any money here. Why? It is nearly impossible to find something here that is not DAMAGED, STAINED, RIPPED, UNCLEAN, or UNWEARABLE. Even after I do thorough inspections of every piece I consider buying, I sometimes come home and find that my newly purchased shirt has a stain that I missed or a small hole. Uptown, this is unacceptable. You should not be selling garbage. Bottom line.
The worst part?? I think that this Uptown knows it’s selling damaged items. The lights in the dressing room are dim so you can’t see the issues with the clothing. Only a customer who actually takes the time to inspect the clothing will find the damage but I’m sure Uptown banks on people assuming the items are in good condition. The employees that initially buy these items HAVE to do a better job of making sure items are not damaged in anyway. Selling someone an item that looks alright but has damage is deceitful and not okay, at all.
And last note on damage—multiple times when purchasing clothing from this and all uptown’s, the security tag they place on every piece can often damage your clothes!! Always, always double check that it doesn't leave a hole, especially if you’re buying an item that’s made of anything other than cotton.
This note is primarily to inform uptown and its owners that they must do better. This is also to inform potential customers to be aware of these issues. I hate leaving local businesses bad reviews but this is truly unacceptable.
I will no longer be shopping at this uptown. I recently went to the one in South Jordan for the first time and was incredibly impressed by the quality of their selection there so I’ll be taking my business there, and to the Sugarhouse one...
Read moreUptown Ripoff.... Do NOT take your used clothes here if you are looking to sell them. I would only recommend taking clothes here if you would like to donate them to the store. My girlfriend, who is a cultured and fashionable woman, took 6 garbage bags (stuffed completely full) to this location. They sort the clothes, call you back in a few hours and tell you how much they are going to pay you for the clothes they kept. They asked her if she would like to donate her remaining clothes they did not pay her for, or keep them. Thinking that by donating the clothes, she would be supporting a good cause, she chose to donate the remainder. Do NOT choose this option. This allows the store the opportunity to take whatever clothing they would like, pay you for whatever they choose to, and then tell you they donated the rest. There is no validation or proof of any of this, by the way. When we came back to the store, they told us they would pay us $10 for the 6 bags we had let them sort through. When we asked the store why only $10, they told us they had a 2 year fashion limit. This was interesting, because many of the clothes were purchased within the last year. Also, we were told twice by people in the store that they "did not personally sort the clothing" so they had no say in the matter. My girlfriend was shocked and told the employees she was confident she could make hundreds on FB marketplace selling these clothes. She asked for the clothes back from the store and said she did not want to donate them. The employees said it was too late and that the clothes had already been donated. This was about an hour and a half after we had dropped them off. What a joke! And a great way to scam people into giving up their clothes for little or no money. Beware, and do not choose the donate option if you are having your...
Read morePros: Fair prices, good selection/variety, clothes were not dated & all were in excellent shape, rewards club seems to make it fairly easy to earn rewards, friendly staff, great organization in the store, offers men & women's clothing.
Cons: Staff was not 100% attentive; when I went to try some clothes on, no one was attending the dressing room/noticed that I had needed to try things on while I awkwardly looked around for help. A staff member also knocked on my dressing room door while I was changing, and, after I said I was in there, proceeded to unlock and open the door anyway (maybe I didn't speak loud enough?). It also took a bit for them to realize that I was ready to check out when I approached the counter. When I checked out, I let the cashier know that I wanted to use the offer I had earned by signing up for text messages & emails on the iPad up front, but after looking at the iPad, she didn't apply my $3 off to the order. I ended up catching the mistake before I left, and another staff member corrected the mistake for me.
Conclusion: All things considered, I will definitely return to this place to shop for clothes in the future. I bought 3 dresses for about $30 (brands were Nordstrom, Banana Republic, & Cynthia Rowley). 2 of those 3 were marked down, and I know if I had bought them new, I would have paid over $100 for them. I liked how the store was organized, and I found many things that I wanted to try on quickly. The only drawback is that I have to be vocal about what I need, and I definitely will have to feel as if I'm inconveniencing the staff to get what I need (they all were working very hard, to be fair). All in all, a fair price to pay for great clothing at...
