Flame and Skewer — Restaurant in Ames

We had eaten here many times in the past and were very satisfied. However, last night was a disaster! I ordered a steak sandwich and baked potato. The potato was hard and not cooked through. The steak which was about 4 oz only was med rare instead of med which I ordered.. I sent it back, however the worst was that the meat for the steak was spoiled …rotten! I ate 2 bites and quit because I knew I Would be sick all night with food poisoning! I didn’t even take it home for my dog! I don’t know if tbey left it out too long, or not kept refrigerated or if it was old or what but it would have been dangerous to eat. Service was slow and the space is dark and dingy. Will Never go back! When we complained about something being wrong with the steak, he did not seem to care and just said “I’ll let someone know” . My husband had French fries and they were greasy and I think the oil they used was old. I went here recently and the wait staff were very kind and quick but the food was very disappointing. I got the souvlaki and my partner got the cheese steak sandwich. I ordered mine cooked medium, but it came out rare, I would've asked for it to be cooked longer, but there was literally no seasoning on the steak, not even salt. There was also no seasoning on the rice pilaf or on the Texas toast, it's like they just put white bread on the griddle for a minute. Also, my partner's sandwich was cooked fine, but it also had no seasoning. The meat was completely plain besides the onion and cheese on it. If it was just any one of these things we would have just sent it back to kitchen, but with so much wrong I didn't think there would be hope of fixing it. It was very strange. The place was ok. Did not like the seat your self part. The food was meh not that good and there is a big room for improvement in the food quality . The waitress did not know how to answer basic questions like what was the soup of the day or what is the sauces that come with the food are or have in it. She have to go to ask someone in the back then 10 min later she come back with some answers. The food suppose to come with a side salad what we get is a plate of not fresh semi-old lettuce with nothing else with it but the dressing beside that the waitress had a bad attitude and her excuse was she was new there.
