This place is the real deal, you can just tell the food is made with love. By far the best birria I’ve had in Ames, and I’ve tried every place. The quesabirrias I ordered were extremely juicy, and loaded with filling. The side of consume was perfectly balanced, not too rich, and had a nice beefy flavor. The rice was fluffy and not overcooked with a great flavor from seasoning.
My girlfriend, a VERY picky eater, ordered a side of sopaipillas and said that they were by far the best she’s ever had. They were fluffy and crispy, perfectly sweet, and “just super yummy”.
I also ordered a pupusa with a filling of chorizo, bean, and cheese. It was very delicious, the crust of the dough was crispy with a nice char, and the dough itself was very fluffy and smooth. It went great with their salsa selection and some lime. Everything was washed down with a delicious, cold, and cheap can of Arizona tea. Overall really excellent eating experience.
The service was also awesome. The owner, greeted us almost immediately and was very polite. One notable moment was him showing me the free salsa selection they have, and explaining the flavors, after bringing out my order of the pupusa.
The store itself is also really authentic, and their selection of baked goods is great. Truly a really awesome place and I recommend everyone come check it out if you’re reading...
Read moreOur experience here was different than most. They have a sign board you must read to order. It is complicated to read and the person waiting for the order acted impatient, not friendly at all. My friend ordered the Steak Quesadilla which he said he liked very much. I had the Burrazo which was 99% rice, very small sliver of avocado in each one, maybe a tsp. full of refried beans, no lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, etc. as advertised. I took it out of it's flour (tasteless) wrapping, so I know what was and was not in it. They are also as expensive as any other Mexican restaurant, without the added free sides of refried beans and rice or even free chips w salsa. $4 extra for the chips and salsa and the salsa was tasteless. No, other's may be charmed but for me it's...
Read moreUndoubtedly one of the best Mexican restaurants in Ames. You can get items which are not usually available at other Mexican restaurants in Ames. The tacos and other items are crispy and have a different flavor that one should definitely try. Our only concern was that the caramel in the flan was very slightly overheated.
This shop is still in construction but that shouldn't stop you from visiting this restaurant. Although we have not bought anything from the shop section, they have a shop section worth exploring. If you love Mexican food at a very affordable price, give it a shot.
PS, we have requested to include Tres...
