This is a food truck (parked off Lincoln Way on the southern side) on the eastern edge of Ames. (It's possible that the truck is located at other places at other times or during special events.)
As for the food, I can confidently say it is one of the best Mexican food I've ever had, if not the best. They have meats like lengua (tongue) and cabeza (cheek) which you can use in your burrito or tacos--both of them quite tender and delicious, along with more standard options like steak, carnitas (pulled pork), etc. Their burritos come with a bit of side salad with a few avocado slices for good measure.
Some people gush over their tamales but since I'm personally not a big fan of tamales, I haven't tried them and IMHO, their burritos and tacos are more delicious.
For drinks, they have a good collection of Mexican soda (Jarrito's).
As for seating, they have a few picnic tables under umbrellas if you want to eat there. During spring/early summer, it's quite fun as that stretch of Lincoln Way is not too busy. But a lot of customers pack their food to eat at home and/or share with their guests.
P.S.: You can order in advance so that your food is ready when you need...
Read moreFirst-time customer visiting Rico's on Lincoln in Ames iowa. I have actually heard quite a few good reviews from people that I know about Rico's with one of them being that they won 2023 winner best food... We ordered 3 burritos (dang good, except it lacked flavor...needs more flavor) 2 tacos (good size, kinda expensive for the amount of toppings inside the taco) and some tamales (definitely have had better, I couldn't taste the jalapenos it said we're in it). I would like to offer advice for future customers while they're waiting... not everybody has a vehicle to sit in, maybe a canopy to cover the area in front of the ordering window and topping window? Also, to also assist with shade in the Summer? Maybe play music for those of us waiting and not in a car? All around it was good, however a bit pricey for being so minimalistic...but that salsa IS ON POINT! So dang...
Read moreThe best little Taco Truck ever! Delicious! I finally found a spot in Iowa that makes food just like how my family does back in Cali. Same preparation style, same flavors. Brings back good memories of home. The Carne asada burrito was bomb! A basic meat, rice, bean, cream and shredded cheese burrito full of flavor, not like that disgusting burrito style that these other restaurants make with velveeta cheese sauce on top and in the inside 🤢 I also ordered the tamales and they were just like how my brother makes them back home. So flavorful, not dry at all. So so good! The tacos were very good as well! I don't know what they season their Carne asada with, but it was very good. We will definitely be taking that 45 minute drive from WDM all the way to Ames just for the food again. It's...
