The space itself is really cool and I'm so glad that this place is trying to bring craft coffee to Ames. I ordered a cappuccino and was pretty dissapointed because the milk was not foamed properly and the shot itself was pretty alright. As the barista was steaming the milk, she was letting in way too much air which caused it to get really thick and dry foam. When she assembled my Cappy, she just scooped the foam on top so it was literally coffee on the bottom with milk foam on top. There was no emulsification of the foam and the coffee because the foam was too thick. I am aware that there are dry cappy's but even in a typical dry Cappy, there is still some emulsifying of the milk and the coffee.

Me friend ordered a tea latte and that was super delicious so id recommend sticking to their tea lattes.

The staff are super friendly and it's still a nest...

One of the true remaining third places in Ames, Morning Bell is a gift to coffee lovers and people who need caffeine in the morning to function.

Personally, I recommend getting a Cortado, followed by a large latte, hot in the winter (which is long in Iowa), and iced in the summer (which gets very hot and muggy).

The people working at Morning Bell are extremely friendly, knowledgeable about all things coffee, and exactly the kind of folks who make this sort of place important to a neighborhood.

Whether it's a Farmers Market Saturday, or a cold Monday in the middle of an interminable winter (seriously why do they last so long) - you can't go wrong with...

These people are great. I think they have the best and most affordable espresso, $2 per double shot (the standard pull?). It's easy on the wallet and a cozy place to stick around for a reasonable amount of time once things return to "normal". I enjoy my lattes straight up but they've got some interesting syrups from Lockwood Cafe that I just have to try. Black Pepper-Sage, Lavender-Rose, even Sriracha?! But it works--everytime, only good surprises.

After having another go at their roasted coffee, I loved their Honey Process on my V60 pour over. The cup was so much cleaner than a previous bag I had. I wonder if the bags are different? But regardless,...

Stopped by yesterday because I heard they might have vegan pastries & I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience! I got a London Fog Latte with oat milk and my sister got an oat milk latte and there was no upcharge for dairy milk! The vibe is very modern and chill inside too (love the plants!) For snacks: I got the gluten free and vegan chocolate tahini sandwich cookie which was great -VERY rich. The baklava was also really good and they had another gluten free cookie option as well. (I assume it rotates). Gluten-free vegan snacks were from Little Bohemia. They had non-vegan donuts as well.

The coffee was really good! Tasted like quality beans without drowning the coffee out with sugar or milk. I got my usual cortado and also opted for a Con Limon as well. I love the coffee and lemonade combo. It was refreshing with just the appropriate amount of sweetness. It was a nice, clean atmosphere and seems like a great place to meet up! The barista was kind of short with me. He mumbled so I could barely hear the questions he was asking. I guess he got annoyed with me asking him to repeat himself. Other than that, I wouldn't hesitate to come back.

We had high hopes for this place but was left very disappointed with our drinks. I got a shaken espresso while my friend got a nitro cold brew (experimental flavor of orange blossom ginger) and we struggled to finish our drinks. My friend had to eventually toss her beverage because it tasted like there was no coffee in it. I was surprised by how weak my shaken espresso tasted, too. One star for the great location, but other than that, we would not return. 🥲
