Thumbs — Restaurant in Ames

I had a really bad experience at this bar last month. One of the female bartenders did something really unfair, racist and mean. She took my ID and didn't give it back until I left. But here's the worst part: she didn't ask for IDs from any other white people at the bar. It was clear she was treating me differently because of my race.

When I tried to order some drinks, she acted like she couldn't hear me or understand me. But she had no problem serving white customers who came in later than me while i was talking. It felt really unfair and hurtful.

It's not right to be treated like this because of your race, and I hope the bar does something about it. Discrimination is never okay, and it ruined what should have been a fun night out. I won't be going back to this bar, and I hope others think twice about...

When you enter, you feel a gentle thrum fill your body. The room seems less like a bar and more of a warm haven for thirsty travelers. Every time you visit, you witness a part of the bar you previously didn't know about. The collection of Polaroid pictures on the wall, the posters of various drinks, the lottery and pinball machines, the cardboard Skelton looking down from above. The bar invites you in, makes you feel at home, a place where you belong, a place where everyone knows your name....wait a minute.....okay so rereading this I realize I was just writing nonsense. Laid back bar with fantastic specials! Locals and ISU'ers drink together as friends with good drinks and great service! This place has been an ISU tradition and should not be missed. Wonderful smiles from the bartenders and they know how to pour! Grab a drink after class and unwind or shoot a game of pool. One of Ames hidden jewels. Patio outside for the nicer months.
