Small place in DT Amherst, with random Infants crying while their inattentive parents having their coffee and enjoy their laptops in the plenty of sun that the place provides. Clean and very friendly staff. Place has lots of wood elements with beautiful big windows and big plants right in the front but probably could use more plants all throughout the sitting area to make it little more "instagrammable". Now, coffee talk- I typically have extra hot latte with extra shot of espresso. I was offered L or S and since it was "to go" I thought L was a good option. Now their L is what any other place would sell as S or at best M. Fine, size might not matter for some of you but it matters to me since I'm paying about $5 for a drink! I asked for extra HOT, yet I was able to chug it if I'd wanted. Their coffee is ok, but If you're a big coffee fan than this place might not be your first choice. Try the near town of NoHo for some good coffee spots. Food talk for the hungry- they have plenty of pastries(amazing looking croissants, muffins and such), and even offer grilled cheese, but no bagel sandwiches or kitchen. Overall, for Amherst,...
Read moreThis is a coffee bar by day and cocktail bar by night. We went in the evening. It draws a lively crowd, but not too rambunctious. The cocktail menu is sophisticated and the mixologists are a busy crew. They will mix mocktails on request as well, though none are on the menu. Sitting at the bar allows a front-row seat to watching the drinks get made: private cozy booths and outdoor seating are also available. A fairly 1930s atmosphere thanks to the older building, which they punch up with a low-key vibe and vintage furnishings. No televisions or blasting music here, just a congenial and rather romantic atmosphere and friendly bar staff who will look after you. A small bar menu is more or less limited to olives, nuts, and cheese. Street and lot parking are both nearby. It’s right in downtown Amherst so dining options are everywhere as well as the cinema next door. Not a great pick for kids, obviously, or for rowdy groups. A good date spot. We also saw small groups of friends and study...
Read moreI am happy to edit my review. Coffee lately has been much better, like old times.
Old review:
I would like to explain the 3 stars. I moved to Amherst last year and Amherst Coffee blew my mind. The coffee was excellent. It was a simple place, just order a latte and enjoy. Lately something changed, and changed for worse. I've been there a couple of times this spring and every single time I was served burnt coffee. And while I can overlook the slightly high price, while I can overlook the fact that the only real drink they have is latte (their capuccino is just a latte in a smaller cup, I don't think it's worth), I can't overlook burnt coffee. Now it's been quite a while I haven't returned (as Google just reminded me, and ultimately the reason why I am writing this review). I may give Amherst coffee another try, but someone should really look at the whole espresso preparation process. I hope it returns to be what it was...
