zhu’s Kitchen Asian Bistro & Ramen — Restaurant in Amherst

We came in this past Saturday (9/13) We arrived around 6–7 PM, and the restaurant was packed. The food was great, but unfortunately, the service really brought the experience down.

Our server was super slow and didn’t seem happy to be there at all. His face never lit up once while serving us: no smile, no basic friendliness. He slammed everything down on the table, and it wasn’t just with us, we noticed he did the same thing at other tables too. He never came back to check on us or refill our water. We actually had to ask another server, who wasn’t even assigned to us, to refill our drinks and clear some plates. She was way more attentive and helpful than the guy who was supposed to be taking care of us.

It felt like our server just didn’t want to be there or didn’t care about doing his job properly. And look, we get it! it was busy, and he probably had a lot of tables. But if he can’t handle that many at once, maybe someone else should be stepping in to help or the load should be lighter.

Again, the food was amazing, and I’d definitely come back for that — just not for the service. Hopefully the manager sees this and gives that server some proper training or support, because the way he handled things was...

Wow! We were so impressed with Zhu's Kitchen. We tried many things, including: the crispy boneless duck, the miso salmon, the tonkatsu ramen, and almost everything on the dessert menu. The flavors were stunning, fresh, and fantastic. Hot and fresh. We especially enjoyed the flavors on the traditional Chinese menu. We couldn't stop ordering, or eating! Mira and Tony were impeccable hosts/servers and we appreciated their personalized touch and recommendations. The best meal we have had in Western Mass in some time. We can't wait to come back!

They serve excellent Chinese food. While I was initially disappointed when they first opened, their ever expanding Chinese menu has made me a big fan. Not too salty or greasy!
