Montezuma Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Andalusia

TL/DR: Manager called cops on us after HE made a mistake.

People say that you either leave a review because you know the business, you love the place, or it was horrible. People do not leave mediocre reviews for the most part. Up until today, I would’ve never left a review for this place because it is mediocre. However, after arriving around 1145 for lunch, we were seated, and we were eventually given our food around 1245. We asked for chips and salsa refills which never came, but that was all minor. We were a group of six, and one person‘s food was the wrong order. Instead of complaining, we accepted that it would be about 15 more minutes for her to get the food that she ordered. The whole time, we were kind and understanding, serving and restaurant business is tough. We never received our check, so one of us went to the register to pay. The manager checked him out, and he returned to the table to leave a $15 cash tip (again—young server and very busy). After walking to our car and talking for a few minutes, one group of us had already left, but the police came TO OUR CAR and told us that we had skipped out on our check. After going back in, we did not receive an apology. The manager just said that it was the servers fault for “switching up the tables,” but he was the one that checked us out…(?) Instead of accepting responsibility and apologizing, he blamed it on her. So now the member of our party who had paid had to turn back around (about 10 minutes down the road), get a refund, and then pay five extra dollars because of the manager’s error. It was all ridiculous. While the service wasn’t good—they were very busy—the manager is what’s going to run this place into the ground. The food was exceptionally good. We had mixed drinks. They were weak and way over priced. Crestview FL Peppers Mexican restaurant. Place has buy1 get 1 free margaritas and they make em good and strong. This place is packed all day every day. I personally think Montezuma puts Peppers to shame as far as the quality of food goes but if you really want your restaurant to do well. 799 for a big strong margarita and it's buy 1 get 1 free. They will pack that place. Or you can sell a 10 dollar glass of lemonade to someone like me and never sell me another 1. I really feel like this one simple change would be a game changer for you guys. Make a banner for those margaritas. Soon as I see that I'll come back in. Also our waitress was sweet but she seemed terribly unhappy to be working there. You gotta smile through the pain chica. If your cheerful your tables will be also. We go here often (at least 1-2 times a month) and the service is very inconsistent. There are always new waitresses and usually they’re ok but nothing spectacular. We went last night and it was really bad. There were about 10 tables of people with 3-4 waitresses. We watched all the tables around us being waited on and having needs met but never saw our waitress even on the floor. Had she been busy with other tables that’s fine but when our food came out cold because she couldn’t be bothered to do her job I got upset. It took twice as long as normal for us to get our food because of this as well which can be forgiven if she was busy but again, it didn’t appear she was. Our drinks were closer to empty when we got the food and nobody was offered a refill. I finally went and asked for a to go drink and boxes because we had been done for about 10 minutes and she was nowhere to be seen. We usually tip fairly to very well for even mediocre service (especially during this holiday season) but I was in no mood for all the issues that were last night and the tip reflected the service.
