My husband, and I eat at slims whenever we are in Ankeny. We are originally from AR (where it originated) so it’s fun to have it in IA as well. Slims is one of my husband’s favorite chain restaurants.
Our last two visits here have been fantastic. So much so, I wanted to leave a review about our experience🫶🏻. The food is not always consistent in its taste/freshness/temp, but the past two times we have eaten here it has tasted fresh and consistent. The fries were hot and well seasoned and the chicken had a crunchy coating and was juicy inside rather than being dry. Our food was served hot both times as well -including my go to sauce, gravy (which might be the first visit at slims where the gravy has been heated.)
The service the past two times was also fantastic! We had the same young lady serve us (once in the drive thru, and once in store). Her name was Danielle, and she went above and beyond in her service. She was polite, professional, and was working hard when she was not at the counter as well. When we went through the drive-thru she handed us our bag of food and we noticed they had put our sauces in their own box and they had separated my husband’s “shaken” chicken strips into two boxes (since he got half shaken in one sauce and half in another). They also gave us each an additional sauce, which I was excited to see ! This is the first time at a Slims in IA where they have done this and we felt they had really gone above and beyond in their service. The manager at this location (I assume she is the manager at least) is also so kind and always provides kind service whenever we are served by her or see her in store.
We will be back! Thanks for the excellent service.
Tip: Ask for your wings or strips shaken in one of slims famous sauces! My husband gets his strips shaken in “Mango Habanero” sauce 👌🏻 and he...
Read moreWe came in on June 18th, at about 5:45. The drive thru line was INSANE, and the place was packed, except for two tables, which we grabbed one of them. I had a four piece chicken tender with fries, the wife got the chicken sandwich and fries. With my order I got the habanero mango dipping sauce, which was very good. My wife's chicken sandwich came on a brioche bun, and she liked it. So, how long did it take to get our order? Exactly thirty five minutes. I'm not complaining, though. Why? This place just opened, and for numerous reasons, it's going to be a slow go for awhile. The employees are new, the location is new, and it's going to take some time for the "newness" of this place to wear off. Expect the first month, or two, to be hectic. On a 1-10 scale, I'd give the food (only) about an 8, or 9. By comparison, I'd give KFC a 1, Wing Stop a 7, Chick-fil-A a 7, and Popeye's a 9. Again, just be cool, cut these folks some slack, many of the employees are teenagers. And maybe that manager is being short with you because he's been dealing with too many Karen's all day long and he's at his limit. Now, if after six months from now you're having a problem, that's different. All the kinks and bugs should be worked out six months after a grand opening, at most. Remember Cowboy Chicken, just east of Perkins about four years ago? They failed and shut down, because they never could rise above repeated mistakes they continued to make. I have high hopes for this place. Check it out, I think...
Read moreWe’ve gotten food from here before and it has always been good. Same with today, the food was good and what we ordered. However instead of my husband picking up, I am the one who went to go pick up our in store order which I placed through the app. It has probably been a month or so since we last got food here and my husband told me there was curbside pickup. No curbside pickup signs, no problem, I headed to the drive thru to see if I could get my order there. I am not sure if the employee was incorrect, or if it is location policy, or storewide policy, but he informed me I had to pick up from the cubbies inside and there was no way to get my in store order at the drive thru window. I have two small children and they were with me. I am not unstrapping both from their car seats, hauling them inside just to pickup food for 30 seconds. I don’t care if there is not a curbside option, I get that it is probably tricky to manage 3 different pickup options, but I am and was thoroughly disappointed that I couldn’t get my order through the drive thru. Didn’t seem like a...
