I happened upon this little place one morning by chance. I had just finished my annual physical exam which required fasting for 12 hours and I was RAVENOUS. Usually that makes me susceptible to making a bad food choice in the interest of expediency. I was about to do that when I saw this place and decided to give it a try. That was one of my better decisions of the week because this place ROCKS. First, it is deceptive from the outside because it looks like a little spot tucked in a strip mall. When you go in, it’s is surprisingly large, open, and airy. And the tables are not crammed together so you can find a table and actually have a nice meal chatting with friends without having people at other tables right up in your business. It is colorful, bright and cheerful with fun slogans (“let me make you smile” and “this is my happy place”) and great music. There were a couple of regulars behind me and the manager (owner) came up from the back to greet them, and tell the hostess they were regulars and make sure they got seated in their favorite spot. Very cool.
The menu has a great range of options - both sweet or savory. I was feeling the savory this morning so I ordered “the Homestead” which was 2 eggs, bacon strips, sausage and a single biscuit with gravy. This was perfect because I was really jonesing for biscuits and gravy but didn’t want a whole entree based on that. The biscuit was amazing, as was the gravy. I like my eggs over hard and a lot of places mess that up (either overcooked or a little runny) but they nailed it. Bacon was perfect - juicy and chewy with just a teensy bit of crispiness and the sausage links were great too. Despite it souring like an enormous amount of food, it was not excessive because the portion size of each item was just right. Almost like a little sampler with just enough of each thing to satisfy. Coffee was great. Service (Stacy) was perfect - she was cheerful and friendly, and she also had that great instinct of when to come around and be friendly, and when to leave me alone to enjoy my meal. Overall, I feel like I found a hidden gem. I’m not in this area that frequently or I suspect I would become another one of...
Read moreIn an area with many First Watch breakfast restaurants, you'd better be at the top of your game to make it as a competitor. As of today, Eggs Up is nowhere near. Came on Memorial Day, 15 minute wait, no problem. Sat down, were given no silverware. Order was taken. My son ordered "Oatmeal with Fruit", daughter ordered caramel apple pancakes, wife ordered a veggie omelette, and I ordered the spinach-and-berries salad, with side a home fries. Bunch of us got home fries, actually. It took about a half-hour for our food to arrive. First Watch gets the food out in 10 minutes. My son's "Oatmeal with Fruit" came out as "Yogurt with Fruit". Misheard, apparently. No problem, they'll make the right thing. My spinach salad came out with no dressing on it. It took quite a while for the waitress to come back for me to tell her that I didn't think there was dressing. She said, "There should be, it's like a hot dressing underneath there. Check it out and let me know if you find it." Then she's gone and doesn't come back for 5-10 minutes, and then didn't even ask me if I found any dressing. I hadn't. She asked "What kind do you want?" I said "Whatever it is supposed to come with". She comes back in a bit and offers me balsamic and honey mustard, both cold. The balsamic wasn't bad, and the salad was pretty good. What wasn't great were the home fries. They came out lukewarm. They also have a seasoning on them that is . . . weird. Just salt and pepper, people. Don't try to get fancy. None of us loved the home fries. My wife's omelette was "meh". She asked for cheese, but there was none. She said "I would not get this again." So an egg place makes an omelette that doesn't make you want to order it again. The caramel apple pancake was the best breakfast thing we ordered. Eggs Up Grill is very close to my house, so I hope it makes it. I don't have high hopes after this. We went to the first Apex First Watch soon after it opened and it was fabulous already. Y'all have...
Read moreGreat new breakfast/brunch place opened up last month near Kelly and Olive Chapel, inside Publix Pointe Center Today we finally had a chance to stop in for a very late breakfast, and we had a really nice experience!
My wife and I sat at the counter and Jade was our personable and efficient server. Since it was our first visit, she helped us to make better choices so it would make our breakfast more enjoyable. Who even does that anymore?
This ain't no Waffle House! Eggs Up is a hospital-clean, professionally staffed family-friendly large restaurant with a complete menu.
While waiting for our meal, Jade introduced us to the owner Chris. Again...friendly, intelligent, nicely dressed (looked straight out of Central Casting as a venture capitalist from the movies, said my wife) Everyone there was a professional, we even got to meet Byron, the back end manager. Great guy, even though he was so busy, he still had a second to introduce himself. Nice!
Let's talk food! I had my favorite breakfast... two normal sized buttermilk pancakes and turkey bacon. And they were normal sized, instead of those giant hubcap-sized things everybody else tries to feed you. My wife had a really great mushroom bacon omelet, much larger than she could finish, so I 'volunteered' to help her
Both were excellent! I'm not going to order the turkey bacon again, because it's so hard to get it cooked exactly the way I like it. My wife of 40 years is the only one who can do it, really. She should work there!
There are good breakfast places around in Apex, but this will be our favorite for...
