I seriously don't understand why the low score! In fact, a part of me wants to keep it a low score so that I can hide this Taiwanese breakfast gem for myself... Both my mom and I loved the breakfast here, especially their soy milk! Coming from someone who grew up in Taiwan and another who basically visit Taiwan every year of her life, this means A LOT! We ordered two ginger soy milk (HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND), the egg cake with pork floss, the baked turnip cake and sweet pan cake! I always eat egg cake (it sounds weird, but trust me..it is just because of the translation..) when I am in Taiwan since it is my favorite breakfast food. There is a famous egg cake place in Tustin, CA that has good rating on Yelp..but it was a big disappointment for me..flavorless and expensive.. The egg cake here is crunchy, fresh, flavorful with fillings and under $6 !?!? Such a steal! The soy milk..mmmmm...warm, the perfect amount of sweetness..brings me back to the busy morning streets in Taiwan..AND a big bowl UNDER $3 ?!?! Too bad I live in OC..or else I know where I will get my breakfast every day from now on...

The four stars are because - We grabbed some of the pastry that was around the counter and tbh those weren't that great.. This store is small, a typical mom and pop store, so the service was a bit slower even though there weren't many people around (we came on a Saturday morning at around 10 am).

Either way, give this authentic Taiwanese breakfast place a try if you like Taiwanese breakfast and you...

Was expecting to be wowed, but this place is just okay. The food is decent, but the main turn-off is the experience inside the store.

Despite how friendly they were greeting us when we came in, first impressions inside were not great. The lighting was harsh on my eyes and the table stuck to me as I sat down. There was a layer of grease on it but no one ever came to wipe it for us. When we got our food later, the bowls didn't seem to be thoroughly washed, there was something sandy/crunchy inside my turnip cake, and I found a little hair fragment in the savory soy milk. Not too sure how they have an A rating haha.

We ordered a salty soy milk, savory "bean flower" (soy pudding), egg pancake, turnip cake, and daikon pastries. We ordered the turnip cake and an extra daikon pastry because the waitress told us the portions would be small, but it ended up being way too much food for 2 and we had to take half of it home.

The food was standard and all pretty bland, and tasted better with a dipping sauce (as is normal with TW bfast). My favorite was the egg pancake. I usually like it with a thin flour wrap, but I think they used an actual Chinese pancake for it. I liked it for the simultaneously crispy and chewy texture, and it absorbed my dipping sauce well.

All in all, this place did not leave an outstanding impression, so the next time I crave Taiwanese breakfast I probably will stick to Yi Mei. If I did come back, I would...

STAY AWAY!!! Well, it looks like a decent food spot on the edge of Arcadia but it is actually a nasty spot. I did notice them in the area for a years but never actually gave a try until today. I ordered for about 40 dollars for two people breakfast, which is a rip-off. Plus the food here is such a shamed joke. The pan fried pork bun from them is just the cheap bags of frozen buns you can get from regular Asian markets and they microwave for you and 6 buns will cost you about 9 dollars. And the egg omelet is essentially the same version of scallion pancake with eggs. Surprisingly, they were priced huge differently! The juicy part is that I had serious diarrhea after having their soy bean milk this morning. Had to take some stomach pills to stop going to restroom for a million times! Can’t image how dirty their kitchen could be! I dont know where all these five stars come from. Google reviews are p2w. Stop using cheap outdated...
