Second visit to Mosaic Cafe Dos, looking for a refreshing, delicious Mexican repast. Went on a Wednesday, just between breakfast and the lunch menu, was informed that they were waiting for alcohol for one of their signature Bloody Marys and they didn't have any. Vodka, for cryin' out loud??? Huh? On a Wednesday, just before the lunch crowd came in? OK, so, had beer instead. Had to ASK for the complimentary chips and salsa (the salsa WAS heavenly, but...) while other patrons who came in AFTER we did (there was just the two of us) were served the C&S almost immediately upon being seated. Ordered the shrimp ceviche off the appetizer menu, was informed they didn't have any. By now, my husband and I were beginning to wonder if we looked like we had leprosy or if we smelled funny. This was NOTHING like our first experience, which had been impressive. Had to ask for complimentary chips and salsa, no alcohol for a Bloody Mary and then a menu item clearly listed and no ingredients for it? Shrimp and I assume the lime should have been abundantly available (not sure what it was about the ceviche that was missing so they couldn't serve it). The large crowd that came in and was seated next to us had ordered and was served about 15 minutes before we even got a C&S refill and about 20 minutes after we had ordered. Actually, we had ordered twice, first time when the server had to go back to see if they had the ingredients for the ceviche - about a 10 minute wait before I had to come up with a Plan B - and then when he finally returned with the bad news and I actually gave him my second choice. Had to ask (again with the, "Ask...") what the status of our orders was. Husband ordered a simple chimichanga, I ordered a veggie burrito. They both came with JUST the item ordered and a small side of shredded lettuce. The presentation was pretty anemic. We wondered if the delay in us receiving our orders was because they sat under the warming light after being cooked. My husband's chimichanga was soggy and my veggie burrito was filled with about $1.00 worth of veggies. My tortilla was delicious but it was about 75% of the entire dish. The whole experience was quite a disappointing difference from our first visit. We've been in Tucson for over 40 years and it seems that the quality of both service and product in Mexican food is on a downhill slide. I moved here because of the Mexican food. Guadalajara Grill, El Charro downtown, Micha's, and now Mosaic. All crappy experiences, after initial good experiences. Are the legendary Mexican food restaurants in Tucson being bought up by corporate gringos? And no, we don't eat out often. But there have been notable differences between initial visits and subsequent ones, so we have something to compare to. We're not newbies to Baja Arizona cuisine, not by...
Read moreThis unassuming cafe was recommended by very good friends of ours. On a trip from Phoenix to Las Cruces, my wife and I decided to stop by on Saturday morning to try it out. We arrived at just after 8am and we were their first customers. The young man, with a number "2" on his shirt, gave us a menu and almost immediately served us great coffee. We ordered our breakfast as a third customer arrived. He also ordered his breakfast. About 10 minutes later the third customer got his breakfast but we didn't. Ok no problem. About 20 minutes later the waiter informed us that they were still working on the chorizo I had ordered and offered us some more coffee which we accepted. 20 more minutes passed and about 6 other customers came in and ordered. About 45 minutes after we had ordered others were getting their breakfast but we weren't. I asked my wife if she was ready to leave and she said yes as we needed to get back on the road to las Cruces. As we were leaving the waiter approached the table and asked if we were leaving and I said yes and asked how much I owed for the coffee. He said he was sorry and we didn't have to pay for the coffee. He never told us why we never served and if it was the chorizo, as a Mexican American, I can tell you it doesn't take that long to prepare chorizo. It's a shame that this happened because now I would never recommend this cafe nor do we know why we never got our breakfast. Was it because I'm a Mexican American and my wife is white? Or was it because we were not regular customers so it wasn't important to the staff to serve us? Or was it just that the wait staff and the kitchen staff are...

To:The owner response.
Is not about the cost of the food, but the quality of the food and service.
I wish I heard how you were going to correct the problem instead of given me the money back. Don't you worry I always give the benefit of doubt. I'll be back...
Wife and I went to Mosaic recommended by me from the wonderful experiences I had with the original one on (Grand & silverbell) Throughout many years. My first time years a ago I was at Mosaic Cafe Dos was a disappointment, but as always I want and like to give the benefit of the doubt.
ON THE FIRST WEEK OF THE YEAR 2023: Not only was I extremely disappointed as my wife but disgusted of the food quality was unbelievable bad. I requested to have my Huevos Ranchero redone because not only they look like _ but tasted tremble. I requested very politely to give me a new one since it did not look like huevos Rancheros I had eaten at Monic one. After the second time the waiter got upset because I was telling him that it wasn't good and I also mentioned to him that in the last 25 years that I been going to Mexico and live there for 3 years I had never gotten so of terrible Huevos Rancheros ever anywhere in Mexico. Also need to add the 3.5 oz. Of coffee for cost of $1.90 per cup, I can only said, “Unbelievable” If you know, respect and like Mexican food give it a try to the dish I describe and you’ll find out is true. Don’t like to do this but I honestly believe...
