I went to Mountain View Cafe this week for the first time. My first impression was with the front counter lady. She wasn't very friendly and when I asked for a table for two she said I had to wait for my party to show up before I could be seated. There were at least seven open tables and what if I wanted a drink?
Our server was super sweet (unlike the counter lady). For lunch I ordered a Chicken Sandwich with bacon on a chibata roll for $9. The bacon and avocado was delicious on the sandwich but the rest of it was very disappointing. At $9 plus a bowl of soup, I was hoping to see a full chicken breast on the sandwich and not three slices and then served on a chibata roll from Costco; I thought this was a bakery?
Since it was my first time here, I thought I would try a few things (3) from the dessert counter ($15 worth) to hopefully redeem my lunch experience. I ordered the canoli (which I would give it a 5 out of 5 by itself), a slice of peanut butter pie (2 out of 5 because I think I could have bought a better peanut butter pie at the store) and lastly, strawberry-rubar pie. I have to say I was so excited about this particular pie because it's been years since I've had a slice. I loved the cute little size of the pie; however, I wished someone would have mentioned that it was smoked or had smoked flavor added to the strawberry-rubar pie. I hate smoked flavored anything so it truly ruined the pie for me.
With the pricey desserts and the pricey lunch, I give this a total of 3 stars because the canoli was that good and our server (not the counter lady) was truly a kind lady and provided outstanding service. Really, just go for the canoli and...
Read moreI love this place!! Excellent Food! They have fresh made sandwiches, gourmet salads, slurpy delicious soups and BLT sandwiches with so much bacon you hafta have an escort roll you out. The shining star is their fresh meat, made juicy and delicious burgers with fries. The menu may be small to some but what they make is excellent and keeps everyone coming back for more. Daily lunch specials are always great but my favorite is when they make their Beef Stew and Biscuits. They just kill me. The bakery items are just wonderful too. Visit their case for various types of cakes...including my favorite, the lemon cake with the fancy name I can never remember. I can spot it every time though. They also have pie ( including the best peanut butter pie on the planet). Every day, they have special bakery items like cream puffs, cookies, brownies, and coconut or banana cream pie. If you just gotta have a pastry, they have several different kinds. You can grab bread by the loaf, if you so desire, as well. Breakfast is simple but delicious. They don't have a "short order cook" style breakfast, so skip the fried eggs for a huge plate of biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon and potatoes. You won't be able to finish it but you will want to really bad. They also serve breakfast sandwiches, a breakfast burrito and have daily specials. The Quiche is quite delicious. I really really love this place and the staff makes it feel...
Read moreThe Bakery Case Items Are Calling You With a nice outdoor patio that does have a mountain view and a cozy inside dining room, this cafe delivers a great experience. The goodies in the bakery cases are worth 5 stars on their own. A hot cup of coffee with any one, or two of these bakery treats is about all you can have for a late breakfast as this is mostly a lunch place and doesn't open until 10:00 am. The lunch choices range from cold and hot sandwiches to salads, burgers, quiche and soups. Drinks include wine, beer and more. On our visit my wife had the Southwestern Turkey Sandwich ($11.89) with a side of cole slaw. The sourdough bread was grilled perfectly and the combined flavor of turkey, cheese, bacon and dressing was great. I picked the Hoagie Sandwich ($11.29) and loved every bite. The ciabatta roll held up well under all the condiments, sliced tomato and balsamic. My side salad was a nice assortment of spring greens. We were unfortunate to have sat at a table very close to the bakery cases and we had to keep asking the staff what the different items were. The cakes, éclairs, bear claws, cannoli, scones - be still my heart! Their meals are filling and as most diners do, they take a little (big) something home to enjoy later. You'll get great service, fresh made to order meals and a...
