You would think i would get on here and spout angerliy about how i waited an extra hour for my pizza but until you learn the context of why i waited an extra hour you would agree with the 5 stars: i walked over to Kelsey to grab a pizza before i left for home from getting scheduled for driving lessons next door, so i ordered a pizza and waited. i thought i heard my name and some other guy took the order so i thought:"oh well it must be his ". i was wrong, they were busy so they gave the order to the first person who reacted to their name being called. so i waited longer.... then longer... then longer until i moved from my back corner table into the waiting benches up front where one of the guys working asked me what i ordered i said a pepperoni pizza, they looked dumbfounded then started asking each other about who they gave the pizza to. before i knew it one of them came out and said " we're so sorry, here get yourself something to drink" as he handed me a soft drink cup and i got myself a dr.pepper. then minutes alter they gave me a small pizza and a half a sub for free because i waited for so long apologizing profusely to me and telling me a few more minutes on the pizza. so i got it and they explained that they got very busy ( witch they did , there was at least 20 orders placed within the time span i was there) and they were handing out orders to whoever came to get it because they thought it was for them. they kept apologizing and all around they are nice, they wanted me to forgive them for taking longer than usual. they DO care whether or not you got your order or not and they DO care whether you are...
Read moreAll I can say is wow. The ladies at my work love this place. I decided to take the wife and baby to try it out. Im usually pretty sceptical of small mom and pop restaurants in strip malls. Oh boy was I far off. The moment you walk in there's something different. All the tables are wiped, bus tubs above the trashes were empty, the floors were spotless, fans were dusted, signs dusted, lids and condiments all full, the kitchen looks like it's scrubbed 3 times a day, everything is so carefully looked after it's crazy. Then there was the staff, all friendly, all amazing.
We got two pizzas and a spudster. My wife like deep dish pizza, I like thin crust and we usually settle on Barros pizza. Not anymore. From the minute they started making the pies it smelled like heaven. The spudsters are these deep fried mashed potatoes. Baby loves them, I love them, the wife loves them. But the pizza, oh the pizza, came out scorching hot so we gotta let it cool for a second. All the whole the smell is just mesmerizing. This is a harder crust with soft, foldable bottom. Thin crust. We got the Papa Kelsey (no mushrooms) and a meats pizza. Both were amazing. The Papa Kelsey stood out though. The toppings were good and fresh. The perfect ratio of each.
I have to say I was ready for disappointment but I was so surprised and will now be a...
Read moreI ordered the following from Papa Kelsey's, all of which were cooked to my liking.
TACO PIZZA: I was skeptical about the enchilada sauce, but it complemented the other toppings. I chose to add jalapenos and chopped tomatoes. The only thing I felt was missing was a side of salsa.
CHICKEN STRIPS: It was the perfect comb of crispy and tender.
MOZZARELLA STICKS: We're crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside (as they should be)
MEATBALLS: They were not dry, and the sauce had great flavor.
GARLIC BREAD: Soft center, crispy exterior. Not overpowering.
Based on my experience, I would recommend trying them out. The prices and portions are fair, and when you walk in, it has that neighborhood pizza joint feel and smell.
I grew up 20 minutes north of Boston, MA, where there are mom-and-pop pizza joints on every corner. Since living in AZ, I've had little luck finding "old school pizza joints." Today, I decided to try Papa Kelsey's. I ordered enough food to last me 2 days so I dont have to cook all weekend. Unfortunately, I ate almost all of it when I got home cause it was that good.
I'll definitely be returning to try out the other...
