Als use to be the place to go for the best burger around. We made the hour drive from where we live at least once a month and it was always well worth it. I haven’t been there since Al passed away and was working in the area yesterday and was so excited to see if ALS was still the place to go. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be the same When we use to go there Al was always around. Talking to people. Makin sure things were right But I went there for lunch and waited 5 minutes for someone to even acknowledge me. As I say at the bar right in front of everyone the women working behind it were kinda hanging out in a daze They looked at me a couple times and then went back to day dreaming and didn’t say a word to me. While waiting I couldn’t help but notice the assembly line making the burgers. Everyone had hairnets and aprons and seemed to be there to prepare food. Except for the girl on the end of the line w a rolled up bandanna around her head. She was leaning over the buns waiting for the meat to be put on with her hair just blowing like crazy Hanging all down and I was wondering how many people got to enjoy her hair in their food that day. So I took it as a blessing that nobody took my order so I had time to see what’s goin on in the kitchen. I figure if whoever is in charge now doesn’t care enough to tell her to put her hair up I’m a hat or a net when it’s right there in front of everyone to see probably isn’t very concerned about the other things that we don’t see going on there And decided to eat somewhere else bc finding hair in my burger would have just ruined my day. Too bad bc as I said. That use to be the...
Read morePassed by this place with a friend and she's a burger connoisseur so we decided to pop in for lunch. The place was surprising cleaner and newer than I expected. It's very well lit with a bunch of potted plants when you walk in and a really cute patio outside. Waitress was pretty friendly and it wasn't too crowded which was nice. Once we ordered our food it came out within 15 minutes. I ordered the chili cheeseburger and she got a regular cheeseburger with bacon. Food came out and I wasn't too excited about the fries. They look seasoned but they weren't really, and some were kind of floppy. I ate them anyway and once they sat for a little they got crunchier. Better with ketchup. The burger was not sloppy when it came out, and sloppy is what I think of when I think chili burger. There was very little chili upon opening so I asked the waitress for just a little bit more. She was sweet about it and obliged so that was great. But when it came out and I took a bite it tasted like something was missing and I couldn't quite put my finger on it during the entire meal. My friend didn't care for hers either and said the same thing...something was missing. Overall it was a good experience though. Waitress was tentative, service was fast, and the place was nice. They have a small bar up front so I'd like to come back to the patio for drinks one day and maybe give a different menu...
Read moreAl’s Hamburgers is a restaurant with historic roots. It was originally founded in the 1950’s and has been satisfying locals for decades. I was in the Arlington area in search of lunch when a facebook friend recommend I give Al’s a try. I immediately mapped it and made my way here with my two kids.
Al’s Hamburgers serves burgers as its specialty, but they have other options as well, like appetizers, soup and salad, entrees, assorted sandwiches, and more. I had to try a burger when I visited, just to see if the hype was real and it certainly was, as my burger was juicy, topped with fresh toppings and gooey melted cheese. My kids ordered other foods, chicken fried steak for one and chicken nuggets for the other, and they, too, said their meal was satisfying.
The interior of Al’s Hamburgers is larger than expected, with a side room for even more seating. The walls are covered with historic photos, for a feeling of nostalgia. You feel like you have stepped back in time at Al’s Hamburgers and you are likely to be pleasantly surprised at the prices. Sides are priced separately, but even with that factored in, the meal is still a bargain.
Al’s Hamburgers is a popular place with the local crowd and for good reason. Give them a visit if you’re in the Arlington area and see how tasty a burger and...
