Yesterday my boyfriend and I took a wrong turn and ended up passing this restaurant. It looked interesting so I googled and learned that it is a Black owned restaurant. We decided to try it for breakfast today. Here is an honest review from both our perspectives.
Food: Our main entrees were good. He got the chicken and waffles (which was definitely the better of the 2 options)... the chicken was seasoned very well and fried perfectly. The waffle was just right and delicious. He added a side of mac and cheese which literally looked like the box Velveeta mac from the store and tasted awful!
I got the fried catfish and grits. Fish was seasoned well also and fried perfectly. The eggs, which I got scrambled, were fresh cracked eggs not that liquid egg that a lot of restaurants use. The worst part for me was the lump of grits I received which had no flavor. I know there's a great debate on how to season grits but the consistency while still warm was completely wrong.
Price: For 2 entrees and an extra side, our total was $38. I believe these prices are comparable for the amount of food and for this being a small business.
Atmosphere: It is very small inside... I mean very! I'd say about 8 tables total. This isn't an issue, per se, but it's probably best to just get take out and not dine in. There were at least 2 tables open when we arrived, yet we were told the wait time was 40 mins. So we decided to just order takeout, which also took at least 40 mins.
Overall, the restaurant was clean and we observed one of the staff cleaning a table while we waited to place our order. Yes, we observed her cleaning the table after she had just told us the wait time for a table was 40 mins.
Customer service: Unfortunately, just as other reviews mentioned, the customer service was extremely poor. As I mentioned previously, when we arrived there were at least 2 empty tables but we were told the wait time was 40mins. When I informed the woman that we would order take out, she handed two menus to us and walked away. We stood there, ready to order, as she talked with other customers at their table and then started assisting the guests who arrived after us.
Nevertheless, we placed our order and provided my cell number. The woman assisting us said I would receive a call when the order was ready in about 40 mins. I also provided my name. We ran an errand and came back to wait. About 50mins later I still hadn't received a phone call, so my boyfriend went inside to find that our order was already done and just sitting there for who knows how long. Turns out the wrong person's name was on our bag and they had lost our receipt.
Perhaps this restaurant has went through some recent changes, and may be in the process of becoming more efficient. At this time I don't think we'll return here. The food was decent (minus the grits and mac and cheese) but the poor service and long wait is...
Read moreWhere do I begin. First my daughter saw reviews and pictures for this place on Facebook. She showed me the pictures of the food. I was like ok I see Breakfast Brothers are doing their thang. Boy was I wrong. Got off work on a Saturday morning. Me and the husband went into this restaurant at 7:45am. There was ONLY 3 customers at that time. Two ladies sitting and enjoying their breakfast, and a young man either waiting on his order or other people to join him. I ordered the red velet waffles and chicken strips, french toast, cheese eggs with bacon, 2 pancakes, scrabble eggs, with bacon, and 2 orders of mac and cheese with lobster. Plus 3 organe juices all to go. The lady told me it would be 25 minutes and that she would call me when our food would be ready. As we sat and waited in our vehicle. I asked my husband did you hear my phone ring because it had been 45 minutes since we place the order. So I decided to go back into the restaurant and was told that my food would be ready in another 10 minutes. So I am standing at the register waiting on our food. Than the place starts to get pack. With no where to stand I tell the waitress that I will stand outside and wait for my order. She said no problem we are boxing up your food now. So another 25 minutes pass and I go back inside and ask what is the hold up. Another waitress states that my food would be ready in 15 minutes. At this time I am like I do not want the food. But my husband (who is not patient) is telling me to wait. Finally 15 minutes later I get our food. PAID 102.00 on only GOD knows what. I told another waitress that I also had 3 orange juices with the order. She asked me where they for there or to go. Why the Scooby-Doo would I drink the orange juice there when I had my order bag and ready to go in my hand.Than She threw my receipt in the trash and I told her I wanted my receipt. She claim it was one in the bag. Got home no receipt. The food was HORRIBLE and that is me being nice. My boys did not barely touch there breakfast. I at a couple of bites of my french toast, eggs, and bacon. The only person that like their food was my husband he only got the macaroni and cheese with the lobster. Do not let the look of this food fool you. Never, never again...
Read moreHad placed an order online at 11:45am, received an email to pick up by 12:00pm. Live in the neighborhood and could get there punctionally, no issue there.
Porkchop and pankcakes, homestyle potatoes, and waffle tacos. The food was good, no complaints with the taste, however, the toppings were very miniscule. (guess that's why it's optional add extra for more $)
My issue was getting the food on time, was told it would be 10 minutes, they asked for my name and they couldn't pronounce it right so I gave my last name instead.
I'm no stranger to working in the food industry and understand when a Sunday gets too busy or the place is short staffed, but telling people "10 minutes", "It's not ready yet", is unacceptable. Just tell people that you're overwhelmed so they have the option to go somewhere else if they don't want to wait.
I'm standing there for an hour with no communication apart from going up to ask occassionally what the hold up is, I got no clue what is going on back there with their staff. So for almost 10 minutes my food was on the counter but my name was never called.
Here's the kicker though... I asked to cancel the order and get a refund, the lady asks me "Just cancel it online" because I placed it online... but it was already paid for! Dumbfounded she asked for my name, basically not wanting to cancel and return the $60 I had paid for and had enough patience to wait a whole hour without getting upset.
So she looks at the bag behind her and lo and behold it was my order. I made a quick response that my name had not been called but the lady replies "I did call your name out, you just weren't paying attention."
Imagine if you did call someone's name out but they didn't notice, wouldn't proper customer service be to walk up to them and hand them the food? That's what I did when I worked in food as a younger youth.
Nevertheless, the food had a good taste, toppings were underwhelming. The price is not justified for this kind of quality that is misleading compared to the pictures shown. I will not ever be coming back to this restaurant with such a lowkey disappointment of communication and basic...
