I've been wanting to write this review for awhile now. The guys here deserve praise for their skill and craft.
I own the fly fishing shop around the corner. I was a marine bio major, and have been involved in fisheries for almost 30 years at this point. I know my fish, love fish, and am both opinionated and picky about the fish I eat.
I've been a patron at this location in all it's previous iterations, and have had a great relationship with all the previous owners and businesses that have existed here.
Enter JJ - sushi chef with a great skill set and youth that adds energy to his dishes. He is creative, precise with his cuts, serves the freshest fish, and gets to know his customers and tweaks his creations to surprise and excite them. He is one of 3 people I trust to walk in and ask him just make whatever is on his mind for me that day - think omakase, but personal because he knows what I really enjoy of his creations. He'll even throw a curveball sometimes to see if I'm paying attention. Last week I ordered an order with salmon, and out came several different kinds, including smoked, charred, fatty salmon belly, and hand rolls.
They'll grind up some fresh wasabi for you, and even pull out the stops with a Hokkaido scallop with their amazing ponzu (yuzu soy sauce), or ask him to make something off the cuff. You won't be disappointed.
I've never been happier to have a local itamae that I enjoy talking to... but it's gets better! Everyone at the shop is cheerful and entertaining. The Thai food is great as well, and the crab rangoon are amazingly light and refreshing and don't taste greasy or deep fried. Drunken noodle and Pad Thai show up and are full of flavor and umami. The mini cake desserts are fantastic.
5 stars for this location. Visit these guys and patronize their business. They deserve it, and the better they do, the more different and delectable fish they get to purchase for their customers that will open your mind and diversify...
Read moreThis is an amazing neighborhood spot with a fantastic selection of Thai dishes, sushi, and desserts! The new owner, JJ, brings culinary creativity and energy to his sushi rolls, soups (my favorite, Wonton Noodle Soup), and various appetizers (the spicy salmon is a must-try), all of which are tasty and delicious. The service is attentive, warm, and friendly, making you feel right at home. I’m slowly working my way through the menu, and every dish has been a delight. It's hands down one of my new favorite neighborhood spots in Arlington for sushi, Thai, or dessert.
The atmosphere is welcoming, and the chef's passion for his craft shines through in every dish. There is ample parking around the corner and across the street makes it even more convenient to visit. Whether you're craving sushi or Thai, this place is definitely worth checking out....
Read moreI wish I could say that we loved this place. We were hungry; it was raining outside; and we slipped in for what we hoped would be a memorable meal. My husband had a rice dish that someone else on this page photographed: The rice was hard and not particularly tasty. I had the pad thai and it was...meh. I didn't take photographs: The service was very, very slow, even though there were no other customers in the restaurant. I had to get up from the table and speak to someone behind the counter, as no one checked to see if we needed something else. They had forgotten something--I don't recall what, at the moment. I would love to support local, independent restaurants, but I'm afraid that this one is...
