I stepped up to order my food and the woman behind the counter kindly greeted...the white guy behind me? What the heck?! She ignored me like I wasn't standing there in front of her face. I gave her a puzzled look and from the sound of the equally puzzled voice behind me, the guy she greeted must've given her the same confused look. I guess either she really didnt see me or she felt admonished by our disapproving faces/tones because she then gave me a half-hearted apology. Undeterred by what had just occurred, I moved on up to place my order and to satisfy my taco craving. I ordered 2 asada tacos, 1 lengua, 1 pollo taco and a horchata. The horchata, although on ice seemed to be room temperature and tasted as if it had been made with faucet water. Oh well, I kept sipping it hoping it would get colder and tastier and more importantly I was pumped to get my tacos!
Long story short they quickly called my order number just a few minutes later. Wow! I was impressed by their speedy service. Wasn't so impressed with how they took my receipt from me when they handed me my food however. Definitely wasn't impressed when I got home and had 2 chicken tacos and 1 carnitas taco in my bag/to go box. Not at all what I had ordered! It was already kinda late and I didn't wanna walk all the way back to the restaurant to complain so I ate the 3 tacos that were before me (although I had ordered 4, waste of money, grrrr.) The chicken tacos were dry and tasted a bit bland. Wouldn't eat those again. The carnitas taco, I'll admit was scrumptious! Yum! The meat was juicy , tender & flavorful.
Sadly the 1 delicious carnitas taco however (which I hadn't even ordered) just wasn't enough to make up for the crappy "welcome" I received when I walked through their door, it wasn't enough to make up for the dry chicken tacos, them getting my order wrong, the room temperature horchata that tasted like it had been made with faucet water or the lady taking my receipt from me when she handed me my order. Looking at someone's receipt when they step up to collect their order ( to ensure that you're giving them the right order) is certainly understandable and expected but to take someone's receipt that is theirs to keep for their personal records, not ok. Had she looked at the receipt instead of just thoughtlessly taking it from me she might've realized that she had given me the wrong order. So my conclusion here and to sum this up, since I live close by, I would likely go back to give them a 2nd chance. I'd still like to try the tacos that I had actually ordered and I wouldn't mind having another 1 of those carnitas tacos. I will just make sure to check my order before I go. I usually do this anyway but of course the one time that you don't is when your ish gets mucked up like mine did tonight. If I receive another cold greeting the second time around I'll kindly take my money & taco cravings elsewhere such as to the tummy El Chilango truck...
Read moreAvoid. Not recommended. They claim it’s traditional Mexican food: it is not.
Someone recommended this place-and someone lost credibility with that tip. Food was way too salty. So was their salsa, or ‘salt-sa.” Carnitas were dry. Chips & beans and cheese at $7.50 for what amounted to a snack pack portion of colorful corn chips accompanied by a bowl of refried beans (tasted like they were from a can) with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. Burrito had a lot of oily, crunchy rice (yuck) with black beans, old wilted chopped lettuce and was grilled, so it got stale as it cooled off in a few minutes and the toughness made it hard to eat -I just ate the overly-salty inside with a plastic fork. Their tacos were so-so, the tortillas became hard and stiff in minutes. Mole soup, a soup that sounded interesting, was interesting in a bad way.
With all these salty dishes, it was nice to have an agua de jamaica, hibiscus tea, on hand. Only thing was drinks were packed with ice, and disappeared after a few sips…and there are no refills, that’s extra. Not a huge deal but with a salty meal, it was.
There are now place looked kind of legit with cool decor, but it’s not Mexican. The problem in the region is that most are run by Salvadorans. That’s not to disparage those fine people, but Salvadorian food is not Mexican. Not sure who the cooks are or owners, but it seems to match the poor quality of Salvadoran-Mexican spots in the DMV.
There are now three of this restaurant now, and that is three places, I will never go to and recommend you avoid too. I would’ve much preferred Chipotle.
Oh, and a group of gruff-looking male had their phone blaring Spanish-language social media that competes with the restaurant’s background music, and the staff hanging out said nothing.
Whether or not you’re a generous tipper, you are given only options of 20,25, or 35% tip (or no tip) for what is really just take out style brought to your table-no real service other than that. For the price of this place for less than mediocre food, consider this if you take the chance of...
Read moreUnfortunately today is the last day I will be ordering any food from this restaurant. I absolutely love the the food and never had a problems with quality etc.
However today they literally either gave my food to the wrong delivery person or they let someone pick up my order and didn't verify they were my driver and or someone simply stole it. Bottom line the responsibility is 💯 percent on the restaurant to make sure the food being picked up or handed to anyone is the correct person at all times. What's worse is the restaurant tells me this has been happening like this a lot because of two internal systems that don't speak to each other, that is concerning and should not be shared with the customer ever, and your internal systems not talking is business problem not me problem. But to keep your customers you guys need to have a system in place that works. Sorry to leave you guys but I can't throw away my money like that. No I didn't get any food or any other resolve from the restaurant we were late for show and had to leave. Uber did refund the full amount as a courtesy.
What has been spent as a patron for this restaurant. These amounts exclude delivery tips and fees is strictly money to the restaurant. From July '22 to July 23 - $412.28 From Jan '22 to July 23 - $637.59
Roughly 20 orders total over the span of time listed above which basically equates to once a month, some months twice a month.
This is for a family of two but most times for just myself. We are extremely picky about where we spend our eating out money that is budgeted by the way, so this is extremely disappointing to loose one of our top three go to spots.
I hope in the future you guys have better internal systems and processes in place to ensure that things are handled appropriately. You cannot always rely or blame a computer on an error you guys have to take responsibility for whatever happens to the food paid for by...
