I ordered takeout for delivery and was really excited to order from this restaurant given their extensive offering of Mexican food items. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed by the lack of quality. Here’s everything I ordered: Mexican rice - You can tell they don’t make the broth and coloring from scratch with tomatoes and onions, instead they add a sazon goya pack on culantro y achiote or some sort of knorr flavoring pack. The texture is exactly as it should be but the flavor is absent. Refried beans - These are not Mexican style refried beans. Either they’re influenced by some Central American style refried beans or they’re straight out of a can. Gorditas - I got their asada and chicken gorditas. The beef one tasted extremely odd, almost like the beef had gone bad. The chicken one was fine, but the fried aspect of the gorditas made it really hard to enjoy the dish. I had to wrap the gorditas in napkins to avoid getting my fingers full of oil. Even still, they got slippery with grease. Chips - These were stale and super oily. They drenched the bag they came in. Birria - My partner ordered this dish and he said it was really good. I’ll trust his word. Tamales - We ordered one raja tamale and one chicken with salsa verde. We’ve only tried the rajas one so far and it’s authentic like, albeit salty. I am hopeful for the other one given the taste of the rajas one.
Overall, I would avoid most of the food for delivery. Ignore the high ratings, as they likely aren’t from people who are Mexican or grew up around good Mexican food. I wanted to love this place, since good Mexican food establishments are missing in the DMV area, alas the...
Read moreOne of the worst experienced I ever had in a Mexican restaurant. I came in with my family and we order a Mocajete either everything in it including Lobster 🦞 and one taco of asada for my daughter just the meat and tortilla (no pico de gallo, no cheese or cilantro) the plate comes with rice and bean. The server who came in to take our order was explaining that if we order the taco it has to come in full that they can’t sell the taco plain. Restaurant policy then explains some story about an agreement about other restaurants around which had me thinking they force to sell the product if u don’t want stuff in it u gotta take it out. We order an extra 4 tortillas and no sign of them showing up with the tortillas until I asked for the check and something to take the rest of the food home. My wife had to get up and come to the waitress ask them for napkin because she was never coming to attend to us. When we were leaving and asked for the check they finally came in with the tortillas which was a HOUR after we asked for the tortillas. All that time we saw the waiter standing by the bar talking the whole time to another waiter leaving us to use our baby wipes as napkin and leave the molcajete almost untouched because we waited on those tortillas. I’m Latino and I’m sad to say this is the worst experience I ever had in a restaurant. I saw the reviews and though it was a good place to take my family but I guess I was wrong. I paid almost $100 for a bad experience with my 3 kids...
Read more3.5 stars. To give context, I'm quite biased when it comes to Mexican food, as I grew up in Southern California. This is probably as close as it gets to authentic Mexican food in Arlington, VA. I can't complain, especially when I need my comfort Mexican food, a bottomless basket of chips and salsa, chicken tamales, shrimp fajitas and margaritas on the rock. Their happy hour margaritas are a deal, but I can't do more than 1 because it's very acidic. I wish they use fresh squeezed lime juice instead of the prepackaged mixers. Service is almost always very slow, they even tell you at the door sometimes that they're understaffed or very busy. I don't think I've ever had to wait for a table, but once I sit down I do have to wait quite a bit for service, and for our drinks and food. Overall a little pricey, I was charged $20 for a 12oz cadillac margarita on the rocks; their food is also expensive compared to all other Mexican food joints you've probably been to in the area, $18 for a burrito (?). But I guess it's that supply and demand factor; they know people love them so they can charge more than others, and yes, they still keep...
