Shamrock offers delicious donuts and other breakfast items. Up until today, I would have given 5 stars easily. I've been a loyal customer at this shop since I moved to the area in October. A week ago, I placed (and prepaid) a Mothers Day order that included 2 cheese danishes/gooey butter pastries. I mentioned at the time of placing the order that I would be there to pick up at 10AM on Mothers Day. I receive a call at 9:45AM on Mothers Day to let me know the gooey butter pastries are taking longer than usual to proof and asked if I can pick up at 10:30AM. I rearranged some things to come at a later time...no problem. Well except when I arrive at 10:30AM and my husband walks out with part of our order and no gooey butter pastries. It turns out their machine broke and they couldn't get the pastries to proof. This would have been nice to know when they called earlier. It would have been nice if they were able to do something other than refund me the cost of the gooey butter pastries and throw in some sandwiches that were about to be thrown out. This order was a Mothers Day gift that was ruined. I had to buy a last minute Cheese Danish from good 'ole Schnucks which doesn't even compare. I've been a loyal customer until today. I so badly want to continue going and place orders in the future but I can't trust them...

The ladies who work here make me feel uncomfortable with their sales pitches. The icing on the donuts is really soft and melty (too much oil?), doesn't taste good, and ruins the donut. I only came here for sprinkle donuts and donut holes. The last time I showed up, they were out of them after only being open for like an hour. This time we got them, and they all just got thrown in the same bag together haphazardly. My daughter asked for Dunkin donuts and I told her we'd get something better instead, but I guess I was wrong. I prefer Fenton Old Town donuts or Donut Stop, but they are a bit of a drive from Arnold/Imperial.

Edit since I can't reply:

I wasn't upsold this day, but I am every other time. The icing is always soft/mooshy/melty regardless of humidity. Moved from 2 stars to 1 since they don't even want to take accountability for throwing the donuts into the bag carelessly.

As someone else in another review mentioned:

This is not normal/standard donut icing. It's more like buttercream cake icing. Which explains why it's the...

This place smells like heaven from the moment you walk in. High-quality, boutique doughnuts in flavors ranging from traditional to innovative and everything in between (why don't more shops offer a chocolate-frosted fruit-filled doughnut? They're so intensely delicious! And when the glazes say a fruit in their name, they actually use that fruit. It makes an amazing difference.)

I'm going to boost what everyone says: their apple fritters and cinnamon-rolls doughnut holes are transcendent. Buy twice as many as you think you'll want. Also delicious: maple-bacon bars and anything involving chocolate. They were out of Oreo mint, and I will be trying the snowcone-flavored doughnuts next time.

Scrupulously clean and cute. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who looks like somebody crossed Cinderella and the Fairy Godmother. She just bathed us in warmth and kindness from the moment we walked in, without being overly-friendly or cloying.

I look forward to...

The donuts smell really good but mind you if you don't eat them the very day you pick them they go bad almost immediately. We regret a dozen only for this very reason. The ones me and my husband would rule out would be the s'mores donut, fritters, and the chocolate coated ones. The s'mores didn't have anything special on it - it's your regular donut with a couple of marshmallows thrown in. The fritters are just banana or apple depending on which one you've picked pureed on a donut. It's almost like eating bread with fruit pulp on it. The service could have been more helpful in picking up donuts. We were hoping to get some recommendations or at the very least told which one is what. We just went with our instinct and a little help would have gone a long way. Also, there is a charge on debit/credit card. Carry cash if you can.

The perfect donut shop for so many reasons: 1) Well-staffed so if you have somewhere to go (like work) and get stuck behind an indecisive parent with an indecisive toddler, there are still other staff to help you. 2) They have an outstanding selection, and a good combination of new creations, along with the old school classics. 3) Terry, who helped me, had no problem, quickly giving me a full tour of the flavors and options. She was very knowledgeable and very welcoming. Clearly takes pride in her store. 4) Quality control. While my favorite flavor is maple, and they didn’t have it, she said they didn’t put out maple because the maple icing did not turn out right, and only perfect donuts come out of the kitchen. I totally respect that.
