This place is traumatizing. Upon arrival, my friends and I saw a man walking out with a dish full of food, and being the optimist that I am, I figured that the food awaiting us must be so good that he had to take some leftovers. That was a fatal mistake on my part. When we entered the establishment, there was a line at the cash register that took about 7 1/2 minutes. (7 1/2 minutes too long in my opinion.) While waiting for our turn, a weird middle aged man started chatting us up and asking us if we were “playing hooky!” We were not playing hooky. Of course this interaction can’t be blamed on the restaurant, but the high price for a cup of soda can be! When we finally sat down at a recently cleaned table (cleaned only with water, water that would later cause me great injury) we found that the place was filled with old people. Is it because only the elderly could enjoy a restaurant such as this one? Their taste buds are aged so I imagine the repulsive food doesn’t have quite the same affect that it has on a group of youngsters like us. We decided our plan of action would be to grab a plate of food while waiting for our overpriced drinks to be served, so we slipped on some cheap plastic gloves and made our way to the buffet. If you like runny mac and cheese and (presumably) store bought pizza this is the place for you! If not, I don’t know what to tell ya because that’s exactly what you’re getting from this place. The mac and cheese was so cold I think I walked out of there frost bitten. But that’s not the worst of it oh no. The worst of it was when my friend found a single black hair hidden underneath her pile of red jell-o. Now if I had known that our meals would come with some free extensions maybe I wouldn’t have ridiculed the prices. But seriously, it was horrifying. (And yet we still stuck around for desert!) After finally finishing our food, we stopped in the restroom. That is where I received a third degree burn on my left hand, caused by the boiling hot sink water. I should have sued. My burnt and crispy hand was the last straw and we made our escape. Long story short, we’re never coming back to PonderGROSSa.

The waitstaff is great; we paid at the counter and the woman was pretty nice. We sat at a booth in the corner, and right off the bat you can see how decorated it is. Pictures and signs adorned the walls, and even the bathroom was decorated. The waiter was sweet and dropped off our drinks, she cared for us nicely throughout our stay. We went and got our free buffet, (we had ordered an entre) and I sat down with my sides. I had gotten a dinner roll, some mac, cheesy hashbrowns, and bacon. The mac was okay, and the dinner rolls were soft and fluffy, I loved the cheesy hasbrowns, they were cheesy but not too cheesy, and the potatos were a little thick but I like them like that. I had 2 buffet plates by the time my steak arrived. I had ordered medium well, but it was pretty much medium. But I like medium too so I ate it, and it was great. I had gotten dessert after. I had icecream, which tasted like regular icecream, the brownies were thick and had powdered sugar on top, and it was pretty good. I had some cheesecake in a cup, the crust was a little thick but it tasted good. The only thing I flat out didn't like was this brownie circle thing covered in chocolate sauce. It tasted off. It costs about 17-30 dollars per person, but it's worth it! I'd come again.

We hadnt been to a Ponderosa restaurant in well over 25 years. The layout and atmosphere seemed familiar as days gone by. We had a friendly greeting from our male cashier. He explained how things worked. and we found a booth. It was a crowded Sunday night . Our table was clean to start. However, we didn't realize we were sitting next to the exit door and the cold wind would catch us as others exited. The salad was fresh. Most of the food choices were at the right temperature. The soups were hot. The steak and shrimp were OK. Some of the buffet food seemed bland at first but salt at the table fixed that. Our drinks were refilled twice and we went back to the buffet four times each to get small samples.. one little portion of everything including small desserts just to experiment for taste and flavor. For being a chain style steakhouse with memories of the past, I'd say the food was above average. The service was friendly and above average. The cost overall was less than a fancy steak restaurant would have been and we got more food for the dollar. Overall I'd give them a very good rating, a strong B+ Since we decided we will go back again sometime in the future, we just wont sit by the exit door.

We've seen the billboard several times and thought the place sounded good. Menu pricing is confusing, it says buffet is included with steaks but somehow it was $60 for two drink, two 10oz ribeyes and buffet. Not terrible prices if the food was worth the money. Sadly the "10oz ribeyes" were two flat steaks similar to a breakfast steak. Very disappointing but never judge a book by its cover. However my husband's 'well' steak had no seasoning and was like rubber. My 'medium' steak was rare and had so much seasoning and fat, that I the steak girl, could not even eat what little of a steak there was. As far as the buffet goes - shouldn't call it a buffet with the small selection. It's closer to a salad bar with fried chicken, corn, potatoes, and rolls. The fried chicken did have delicious flavor until you take a big bite and realize it's only halfway cooked. We were present eating with our daughter who's one and after standing in line for some time to get to the "buffet", finally sit down to hear the waitress just hollering about people and their children and the messes and how she would rather not have them......it was very rude and just topped the meal off. If I didn't have food service experience I wouldn't have left the $5 tip we did. She did not even check on us after delivering our steaks, prior to the steaks coming she had plenty to say to my husband and very little to say to me. I understand food service is hard and people allowing their children to destroy a restaurant is terrible but we are a family that gets out the wipes when we are done eating. I did not even take the half eaten steaks home for my dogs. Save ur...
