Saffron, Rose, Butterscotch, Lychee
No, not just stripper names. But, names of the exotic flavors of kulfi (Indian ice cream) available at Saffron Spot in Artesia.
On a scorching 92 degree SoCal day, I needed some icy sweetness to cool off my hot body. The day before, it was milk tea boba. For today, a few scoops of kulfi sounded like just what was needed.
Located inside the Little India Village Food Court, Saffron Spot offers up the aforementioned kulfi & other sugary offerings, such as fresh pressed sugarcane juice, gola (shaved ice), lassi (probiotic yogurt drink) & falooda (scoops of kulfi on a bed of noodles w/ rose syrup & basil seeds).
On this occasion, my mind was on kulfi & kulfi was on my mind.
After sampling the various flavors, I decided upon a scoop of sitaphal (custard apple) & chikoo.
Cold, smooth & rich, the scoops of kulfi hit the spot. Mellow in flavor, I relished the density of each delicious spoonful. I would've preferred more assertive tastes of each respective ingredient profile. However, on this hot day, I had frosty goosebumps & an icy shiver while enjoying my treats. So, mission accomplished, Saffron Spot!
Service was good. I was allowed to sample whatever my heart desired. A few tables & stool seating on hand to enjoy your treat. Parking is inside the Little India Village Food Court. Several signs inform visitors that parking is for customers only & violators will have their car towed. So, don't park here if you're going to explore Little India by traversing Pioneer Blvd.
Saffron Spot, your authentic flavors & all natural ingredients have made me a fan. I was cool as a cucumber after happily stuffing my face with the sitaphal & chikoo kulfi. I'm anticipating coming back whenever the heat returns and I'm in need of some frozen...
Read moreWent there last night with my family for the first time - Not very impressed.
Small shop with not that many choices of ice cream. Few Persian flavors like rose, saffron, mawa etc., Indian inspired flavors like rajhbog etc. and then they have few regulars like mango etc.
One positive thing is that they do have free parking.
Prices are high and shown on their website are not accurate. For example; 2 scopes are $4.99 and not $4.50. They do charge $0.50 extra regardless of the total if paid by debit or credit card.
They do have other stuff like sugar cane juice etc. Check their website for details
We got ice cream falooda for $4.99+tax which comes with small scope of any 4 flavors in noodles with rose syrup and takmaria. Ice cream was good but because of high sugar in rose syrup, whole item was ruined! Why so much sugar?
Their customer service was not that good. There was no thank you at the end of the checkout or when were about to leave.
One other thing I noticed is the charging of sales tax on ice cream. Per California law, sales tax can only be charged for hot items or dine in. Then why these people are charging tax on cold and take out items? This is illegal! In addition, I think they are charging more than their official city sales tax of 9%! Check your receipt!
I am seriously thinking to file a complaint with the...
Read moreI came here yesterday with my sister and we were completely blown away by the flavor and quality of the ice cream. Not sure why there are so many bad reviews, we were impressed! We sampled several flavors and had a very hard time choosing what to get! From what we sampled, the kulfi, paan, saffron, and pistachio flavors were delicious! Very strong flavors and creamy texture, how we like it. We ended up going with the rasbhog and rose flavors, which were amazing! I cannot say enough about the rasbhog especially, it was definitely a treat! I have to say, the young girl that helped us was very nice, so from my experience the service was pleasant. 10/10 recommend. I can't wait to come again!
P.S. the only complaint I would have is the $1.00 charge for using a card, since that is ridiculously high. Thankfully we had cash on us, which was rare, or else I may have been inclined to rate a...
