I don't even know how many years I've been coming here, but it has been many. My kids have practically grown up coming here at least 2 x month, sometimes more often. I've seen managers come and go, and with that, quality is constantly fluctuating, but there always seemed to be consistently good customer service from employees and managers. I guess the latest managerial shift came with a whole new staff and food prep quality. One that I can't believe is consistent with Tokyo Joes business and quality control values. My order has remained pretty consistent for years. It is one that Erin, a previous manager, suggested to me due to food allergies. It is a chicken spring roll, subbing dark meat for the pre-marinated white meat and subbing plain cucumbers for the sunomono. I usually order a Yo Roll as well. A couple weeks ago I went in and noticed what seemed to be a complete change of staff except one young man. I just ordered a yo roll. It was primarily a rice ball with the scantest bits of other ingredients. Today, I ordered my usual modified spring roll. I was told they don't make them that way. I tried to politely explain to yet another new employee whom I've never seen there before that this has been my regular order for a very long time. She cut me off and basically told me, very flippantly, that I'm wrong because she has never seen me or taken this order before and that Tokyo Joes has always had a policy to absolutely not modify or make any subs in their menu items. When the young man in the background heard me order he literally had a mini tantrum. He is the young man that I mentioned that seems to have survived the latest round of employees leaving. He has made this spring roll for me in the past. I decided not to order and go elsewhere. As I turned to leave she went up to him and started joking about me and the situation and was laughing as I left. I've ridden the wave of changes through the years here, and sometimes I've been frustrated with their frequent mistakes and quality inconsistencies, but until now, they've always maintained very good customer service making the other issues bearable. Well, I'm done. I've been a good customer, and I won't continue to spend money there. Especially when Tokyo Joes no longer owns the market in this type of Asian healthier fast food restaurant model. There are several similar but healthier, more innovative and tasty meal choices and more cost & time efficient options popping up regularly. Two of my new favorites are Makimoto and Waikiki Poke. I highly...
Read moreThis location used to be amazing but lately I’m not sure what’s happened. Food quality had dropped through the floor. The staff is nice but the portions are wildly different every time I’m in. The udon noodles can come out perfectly cooked or so mushy they are paste. There seems to be no quality control anymore. It’s very frustrating getting a Togo order only to get home and the quality is so bad you cant eat it.
My most recent visit was on Mother’s Day. My mom and I are vegan and this is an easy quick option without worrying about cross contamination. Upon walking in I was greeted by the glassy red eyed gentleman with a “what's up bro” I get its quick service but a little more professionalism would be great, also not looking and sounding like you just came off a bender would be welcoming as well. It’s a bit disheartening having worked in restaurants my whole adult life seeing an empty dining room that’s trashed while people are sitting behind the counter not doing anything. If that’s the quality you’re okay with showing customers I can only imagine what the kitchen is like. I got a tofu bowl with udon noodles. The tofu was not cut into pieces it was long dry strips like someone cut corners to just get it out. The noodles were so over cooked they were paste when I tried to get a bite of them. My mom got a tofu bowl with rice and her tofu looked awesome plump, juicy cubes. It looked like I got what was left in the holding area and hers was fresh. She got half of the veggies I ordered and double of ones she didn’t want. It’s very frustrating grabbing something special for a loved one on a holiday only to have one person not able to eat and the other got the wrong things. I ordered online and picked it up so we could enjoy a nice meal at home. After working a long day the last thing I want to do is drive back and argue with someone about my order.
There are some awesome vegan options right in the same shopping center. It sucks that a place can drop in quality so bad so fast that it forces you to completely stop going so you don’t have to play roulette with the...
Read moreRude, disorganized, and unhelpful. I will not be coming to Tokyo Joes again in the future and I will recommend all of my friends and family eat somewhere else instead. Renegade Burrito and Torchy's Tacos have much faster and friendlier service. I have to give extra credit to the woman with hot pink hair for her rudeness, it really made the choice very easy for me.
Ordered online today and came in to pick up my order. Waited in line for about 10 minutes while people ahead of me placed their orders. When I reached the front another customer cut to the head of the line, grabbed a random busy employee, and told them they had an online order for pickup. They were quickly given their order and went on with their day.
When I reached the front I asked "Did I need to wait in line for 10 minutes to pick up my online order?" The woman with hot pink hair told me oh no just grab a random employee and tell them you have an order to pickup.
I asked why there was no sign indicating that I should do that. I've worked food service before and I would never interrupt a very busy employee with a request, especially when there's a line of other people patiently waiting. I got a non-answer about "Oh well we're all just so busy you just need to grab somebody."
So I repeated myself, "You should put up a sign so people know they don't have to wait in line to pick up their online orders."
I got a rude look, raised eyebrows, and then she turned around and went back to her work without saying anything further. It was a very simple request given politely and her response was unprofessional and rude. It's no wonder the service is so poor here.
If you can't take polite feedback in a reasonable manner then I will take my business elsewhere. I will also be sure to let all of my friends and family know to take their business elsewhere too.
Also worth mentioning that there is an "online orders" sign but it is directly in front of the actual line to order and does not mention "please cut the line and grab a random...
