*EDIT: It appears they installed a guard rail at the door. However, we haven't visited since they opened. These days the parking lot is always empty, so we prefer some of the other Mexican restaurants in town.
Couldn't wait to try this restaurant, wish we would have gone to our regular joint. To start, the old meat market building isn't set up for a busy restaurant-type business. Good idea, just not very conventional. The parking lot is entirely too small and most people have to park in overflow, which is up on a hill and you end up scraping the bottom of your car getting parked. Then, you have to walk down a flight of stairs and across railroad tracks before walking completely around the building to enter the front door. Ok, I can live with that, for some really great food, but... our experience never got any better.
We were seated and it took an unusually long time to get drinks ordered. To be fair, the restaurant appeared to be short staffed. However, our drinks were brought out with no straws (we had to ask for some), even though there were 3 young children in our party. It took so long to get straws that I just pulled the tabs back on the lids so the kids could sip on their drinks like coffee. Finally we ordered our food. It actually came out pretty quickly but I still have two complaints. First, the waitresses kept bringing out dishes that weren't ours, and they didn't seem to know which table they belonged to. Secondly, they brought out the adult dishes first, leaving the kids waiting with no food. After the food was brought out, we didn't see our waitress again, until we flagged her down for a to-go box. She never brought the guacamole we ordered (but tried to charge us for it) and our drinks were never refilled. As we left, it dawned on us that the entrance/exit door is literally like 5 feet (a sidewalk's width) from a busy street. A child could be hit by a vehicle in the blink of an eye without extreme caution. So, based on our initial experience we will not be...
Read moreI wouldn’t even give this restaurant one star!!! I went to lunch with one of my best friends and her daughter, I ordered vegetarian combo # 4 which states on their menu: bean burrito, spinach enchilada, and mushroom quesadilla with rice and beans. The first plate Brought to me had NO VEGETABLES - two enchiladas loaded with hamburger meat. I kindly let my server know that my food was not what I ordered and I showed her on the menu again what my order was. She promptly took the incorrect food back and a few minutes later she returned with another plate. On the second plate I was served: (see Picture below) Two spinach, mushroom and onion enchiladas with sauce that tasted like spaghetti sauce (my friend and her daughter tasted the sauce and said the same thing “it tastes like spaghetti sauce”). I informed the server once again that this was not what I ordered, she asked for the manager to come see me. My friends finished their food while I waited as the manager “Jose” ran the cash register. It took him about 15 minutes before he arrived to my table. He asked “what it wrong” I showed him on the menu what I ordered and asked him if he could see the items I ordered on the plate that was sat in front of me. He responded “DONT YELL AT ME”. I was shocked at his response which concluded our conversation. He took my plate and left the table to finally send me a ticket to charge me for food I never received from his...
Read moreWe stopped here on our way home from a trip to Charlotte. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. There was even an employee at the front of the restaurant scrubbing highchairs (like ACTUALLY cleaning them, not the quick swipe with a rag you see at most places).
Our drink order was taken quickly. We were brought chips and salsa within 5 minutes of being seated, and our order was taken as soon as we were ready. The food was very good (we had quesadillas, street tacos, burger, and the fajita taco salad) they got everything right, even though we are picky eaters and ask for several changes (ex: no onions on the tacos, no cheese on the burger, sour cream on the side for my taco salad, added GRILLED chicken to the kids quesadilla). Everything was 100% correct.
Everyone liked thier food. A manager (possibly even the owner?) stopped by our table to make sure our food was prepared correctly and to our satisfaction. We were constantly offered refills, and our drinks were never less than 1/2 full.
The service was quick, but not rushed. We were not in a hurry, but also not trying to take to much time as we wanted to get back on the road.
The biggest thing was that everyone was so friendly, happy to serve us and seeminglycared about our experience. I don't experience this very often post covid. If I'm ever in the area again looking for Mexican food, this will...
