Let me start by saying that we have been supporting and dining at Abeja's for many years, and I absolutely dislike leaving this review. Today, we came in and ordered drinks without peeking at the menu. Spoiler alert: nearly everything on the menu has increased in price $1-5 per item. Many menu items increased by 25% or MORE! I understand a dollar or maybe even up to 10% increase in price, but this was beyond shocking. To do this in an area that has been devastated by a hurricane is a huge risk... many businesses make the mistake of raising their prices too high, end up pricing customers out, and inevitably closing... a sad reality.
In addition to this, they did away with the kids menu, so feeding the children also had a dramatic increase in price. Until a reasonably kids menu at the very least is brought back and the prices are lowered to a reasonable price, we won't be back. $9 for a single pancake for a child is outrageous...that's higher than I've ever paid in a high end restaurant in a big city. Not only did they increase their prices: they still have a credit card processing fee which all in all, will bring your total cost for many items up to a whopping 30% increase. If you haven't been in a while, be prepared for a shock.
My favorite meal went from $14 to $18 My husband's favorite went from $12.50 to $16

Read moreI really was hoping this place was going to fulfill my need of a good mexican breakfast. I read all the reviews and had high hopes since it is the only place in AVL that serves a mexican breakfast at breakfast hours. I had the chilequeles and my wife had the huevos rancheros. Sadly it missed the mark on both. Being from South Texas I grew up on these dishes and had multiple options on places to eat. They are simple dishes, huevos rancheros should be eggs cooked in ranchero sauce served with refried beans, papas and a slice of bacon with fresh handmade flour tortillas on the side. Not complicated. These dishes were a hot mess piled high with all kinds of unnecessary ingredients. Some times simple is better. The chilequeles were mushy, the tortilla strips in them should have some crisp to them. Again, it was piled on with all kinds of confusion. The only thing we were happy about was the tasty coffee. I know I know, this isn't south Texas and this is as good as it's gonna get in AVL. Nobody around here knows what a good plate of Huevos Rancheros or Chilequeles should taste like if you've never had anything south of Austin, Plus most Mex food around here is Cali style. It...
Read moreI have been to brunch at Abeja’s several times. I have always enjoyed their food, and the service has mostly been fine, until today. Today I ordered a vegetarian omelette with tempeh, and they accidentally brought me one with meat. I politely pointed out the mistake after taking a bite, and the server was very apologetic and quick to have the kitchen make me the right order. I told her that I could bring the meat omelette home, because I knew they would otherwise throw it away, and my boyfriend would eat it. Five minutes later, the manager came by the table to take away the meat omelette, and I explained to her my plan of taking it home so that it wouldn’t be wasted. In a very abrasive tone, she informed me that she would not allow that. I tried to explain again, thinking that maybe she had misunderstood me, but she insisted that their policy is that I couldn’t keep it, unless I wanted to pay for it. If this is in fact their policy, I find it to be illogical and wasteful. On top of that, she treated me rudely, as if I had orchestrated the situation in order to get a free meal. The whole interaction was unpleasant enough that I will sadly not...
