I worked for Subway once upon a time, for several years in high school and college. I realize things change, but dear lord what a mess this location (Ashtabula Harbor) is at times. My biggest complaint is multiple people handling my sandwich. It is both more sanitary and time-saving for one person to handle an order from start to finish. Obviously, there is the exception of very large orders, but they routinely hand off the sandwiches multiple times. At that point, you have to sometimes repeat your order multiple times. I really wish they would fix this. Thankfully, not all locations work this way, and I will actually drive further to go to those because of this issue.
The other night, a worker didn't wash her hands before making my sandwich, she simply splashed water on them very quickly then dried them on her clothing. Absolutely disgusting. I left without ordering.
I have been to this location on multiple occasions when they don't have some items prepped, or they are putting very frequently used things away 30+ minutes before closing. The basics should be on hand and they should be prepared. Yes, there is the occasional huge rush you just couldn't predict, but this happens a lot.
If you go to the store in the evening, quite often the cutting boards aren't on the prep area (and trust me, the area under them can get pretty gross by the end of the day) or aren't cleaned. I have seen employees just use their hand to brush it off, right before touching my sandwich.
Also, the employees don't know what to do if they have to think about the money you hand them. Call it a crazy practice, but when I did my training at Subway, I had to be able to make change even if the register was down. Times sure have changed.
