Came back and visited again...a couple times this month actually. They added a very cool new playground for the handicapped. I would have gotten pictures but I was having so much fun with my son checking out all of the new equipment that I didn't stop to snap any. Take my word for it though and go check it out! There were so many new and exciting things that any child, handicapped or not would really love to explore. Our favorite part was the giant colorful xylophone. It wasnt too loud but it makes beautiful sounds and it was such a great idea to include for the kids (and I) to play with. Every bit of new equipment is brightly painted and build on sturdy but soft cushioned astroturph (I'm not sure if I spelled that right, but it's that fake plastic grass stuff). They also have tall and much wider than normal slides, a glider, a few climbing gyms, extra wide tubes to crawl through, a club house, swings, and so much more. The most amazing part is that kids (or adults) in wheelchairs and other mobility challenges can play on these things and experience the real joys of childhood that they unfortunately wouldnt be able to at most other playgrounds. It really left a big smile in my heart thinking that very thought. I recommend checking it out, even if you have to drive a bit out of your way to do so. Your child or whoever will thank you for it and you won't regret it one bit. I hope parents don't allow their kids to destroy this thoughtful treasure and everyone treats it with the respect it deserves.

New review: Still an awesome park. Great place to take photos of your kids.

Old review: Very beautiful park. The beach is clean with the exception of some very interesting pieces of driftwood that was intensionally left for aesthetics. They have a lot of fun playground equipment for the kiddies, picnic tables and a pavilion. They have a short but nice hiking trail surounded by bamboo and a wildlife preserve within the bluffs. It all depends on you but I'd say this beach has a lot of potential to help build lasting memories. I would recommend checking it out even if you only have a couple...

Beach is very nice but I had a bad experience today with the lifeguards. We’ve always been allowed to use inflatable inner tube and noodles at the beach. And today I was approached by the female lifeguard and told it was unsafe to have a noodle in the lake…I pointed to the other ppl using inflatable rafts and tubes and she said as long as ppl use the inflatables down by the rocks, it was ok…so I went down by the rocks….not ten minutes later she came and yelled at all of us and said we weren’t allowed any flotation devices. It was insane! She even made one couple take their small baby out of a baby tube…the baby couldn’t have been more then one! And then to make things even more degrading, she sent a young boy lifeguard to tell me I wasn’t even allowed to swim over that way….in 2 ft water!! Long story short, this use to be a very family friendly beach, but today it wasn’t. I understand beaches have rules but none of these “new rules” are posted anywhere. So this is just a warning to ppl who go there. I really hope the city of Ashtabula will hire better lifeguards in the future, instead of collage kids on break…I wouldmy trust these two to...

🌊 A Beach Enthusiast’s Dream—Walnut Beach Delivers!

As someone who's explored beaches around the globe, I can confidently say Walnut Beach is a hidden gem—and currently my favorite spot on American soil.

The energy here is incredible and inclusive. Whether you're swinging through tire swings, getting reps in at the pull-up bars, serving it up on the volleyball courts, or simply soaking in the gorgeous scenery, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Yes, the shoreline is a bit rocky, but that only adds character. I discovered stunning pieces of sea glass and unique stones that felt like nature’s own souvenirs. It reminded me so much of the breathtaking beaches in Croatia—a pleasant and unexpected surprise.

We regretted not being better prepared to spend the whole day, but rest assured: Walnut Beach has officially earned a permanent spot on our Ohio itinerary.

Ashtabula has a beautiful beach and a welcoming community. From this avid beachgoer? Two thumbs up and a solid 5-star...

My brother and I went down to look at the state of things as they relate to one of his favorite hobbies: ice fishing. It's always quite breath taking to see the ice building up along the shores. We stayed on the land side of the break wall and the ice covering that area. I was interested to see his gadget which measured the depth and any activity going on under the ice. We also saw many tracks that I would have thought were dog but my brother informed me they were coyotes. This is surprising to me having grown up in the area and in my childhood up to my young adulthood never heard of coyotes in the area. Neither did we see wild turkeys back then. I don't really know how all of this has come about, but, at least , these are changes I'm quite happy to see. It was also quite fascinating to watch a large ship coming into port through the channel in the ice. A cold but fascinating morning.
