Nice atmosphere, good drinks, and entertainment, sure. However, when I had my own personal experience only my second time there, it was completely different. The man who runs the open mic may be the rudest and most arrogant man I've ever met. Had been told to do an open mic there. I've never performed my music anywhere live and signed up thinking it'd be fun. Walked in 20 minutes before my time and was immediately yelled at from the man, over the PA system for the whole venue to hear, that I was to come up on stage immediately and do my set. I told him I didn't have my stuff in yet and he then let someone go in front of me while I got my things. Set up my equipment with my bandmate only to be told by the same man drums aren't usually allowed, despite having nowhere it saying that on the information about the venue. Played my set, which was supposed to be 10 minutes, and after only 6, was cut short and told "2 songs that's it". Even though my friend and several others my prior time coming to the venue played up to 5 in the span of 10 minutes. I then come back into the venue after loading up only to see that the same man is playing his OWN set because no one would show up to the open mic after me except 2 people. He made me feel incredibly uncomfortable and unwelcome despite being a customer and performer. Not a friendly environment for creatives or anyone looking to have fun at an open mic. Can't say anything bad about their service, food or drinks but can say I was severely disappointed in the management of their entertainment. Don't intend on giving that man my business any further. I advise anyone interested in performing there to...
Read moreWhile I miss the Oglethorpe Ave. location, I have to say that the new place is every bit as enjoyable. The space is warm and inviting, the seating is comfortable and varied. I love that there is an outside space! Bands play indoors and outdoors at various times of the afternoon and evening and it is great to sit and listen and have a full bar and coffee shop at your disposal. The styles of music are widely varied throughout the week and I've even seen belly dancing. The sound quality is good, though it can be a little loud for a cafe/coffee shop at times. Bartenders/baristas are friendly and helpful, though during popular music times it can be hard to get drinks and they still need to work on the way they handle food, but it is looking and working better every time we go. I'm so glad Athens has this...
Read moreWe go to Hendershot’s fairly regularly, as we live nearby. It’s an Athens institution! The coffee is always tasty, the service friendly, and the food is good. The Hendo burrito is not to be missed. Plus, you can get a little something from the bar any time of day; a definite plus. Their evening performances range from music to comedy to drag and I’ve never been disappointed by a show. Intimate spot for a concert, but lots of room to spread out during the day, indoors or out, if you want to meet with a friend, get some work done, or enjoy some solitude. Great music always playing on the overhead. It always...
