Wendy's — Restaurant in Athens Township

I went to Wendy’s in Sayre on July fourth and was hoping to have the same experience I had in Wysox. I don’t normally indulge in fast food but I was really hungry the other day after driving to Shore Sisters market and I had one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. I was hoping to have the same experience in Sayre Pa o I went inside because I wanted a simple ice coffee along with my burger. I was met with a very hyper young lady and gave me complicated options about my burger “did I want large or small? I replied that I didn’t know there were options and I was hoping that the service provider could indulge in some abstract reasoning but NO . I said okay give me the large and I wanted a simple large ice coffee with extra cream. So I only saw “frosty” . I was afraid to deviate from the menu so I said can I have a large Frosty with no flavoring because I can’t tolerate sugar. Well that turned into a major ordeal and I was ready to say forget it but she pressed the matter and by that time there were two other young people standing behind her. Yes! I was feeling very uncomfortable and she I said are you concerned for this girl’s safety? They said no but just kept staring at me. I finally got my order and paid. While sitting at the table one of the workers were nearby so I asked him how would I order a regular ice coffee in the future without all the confusion? The next thing I knew the original server was standing next to me asking if I was talking about her. I said no. And she wouldn’t let it go. I said “look, I’m having a really bad day and I would like a break “. She wouldn’t let it go and she doubled my discomfort! I finally said ( and I never talk to people like this)”would you please shut up and go away?” Never go to this...

Wendy's is Wendy's. You go there because its food is predictable and it's what you want. So let's talk about other qualities of this particular Wendy's.

It's located on a typical fast-food/commercial road. From a traveler's point of view, a little bit out of the way from the Waverly/Sayre "downtown", but not that far. About a mile of traffic and lights from US-220, on a parallel road (get off one exit, get back on via the next).

Lots of parking, clean inside. Staff is friendly. When I asked for a flavor to be refilled in the soda machine, it happened without delay.

Unlike some Wendy's (Ithaca comes to mind), there is a "Wendy's Wi-Fi" sign and the Wi-Fi works...albeit a little slow at times. And, yes, there is still a TV in the corner, for those who want it.

Unlike some Wendy's (see above), there are no ordering kiosks. You interact with and place an order with a real live person. It's a smooth and time-effective process. The POS device recognized a QR code from the Wendy's app.

The soda machine seemed fine when I ordered. Sure, the colors were wrong on the display (failing screen?) but the product was delivered without delay. Later, returning for a refill, it was in "delay mode", with responses to every screen touch taking 15-30 seconds. Time for maintenance or a new machine.

At the end of your meal, you'll have no trouble finding one of the several trash bins. They haven't been pushed into unlikely spots to make room for shelving units devoted to order-via-the-app customers.

Overall, though,...

The food was decent, but the service at this Wendy’s location is absolutely horrendous. Right before midnight on Friday, 20th of January 2024 whoever was working at the window and also taking the orders over the drive-through intercom, are very bad people. I drive a Hand Control vehicle and I missed my mark in terms of pulling up right beside the window so I had to back up…. This was enough for the people here to call the police on me accusing me of being intoxicated. It actually sounds quite humorous, but this shows that these people are very sneaky in terms of what they do because not once did anyone ask me anything. Not to mention that this girl at the window forgot our straws and I had to go back to retrieve that, But just knowing that the sneak of an individual was fixing to call the police on me based on the most ridiculous suspicions as I was sitting there with my daughter eating our meal is beyond pathetic. The police very quickly came and asked me a few questions and that was the end of it. But just the audacity to make that move without actually talking to me first is really bad and worth...
