I really wanted to like this place.... But nothing was more pitiful than those tacos and their service. Sorry, I can't even begin to sugar coat this one. Sure, lets blame it on them being "busy" because the East Atlanta Strut was taking place.
OK, my reasoning when I get poor service from a business even when they are busy because of a special event is... SO THE HELL WHAT! I'm sure you were notified weeks before the event so you should have at the least prepared and had staff ready. If you don't understand that concept watch Hell's Kitchen or let me manage your place. So here are the details....
Service: We walked into the patio area of Holy Taco 3 adults two children. We had our names promptly taken and told it would be about a 10-15 minute wait. But there were so many open tables (both clean and some dirty) so we figured it wouldn't possibly take that long. Besides a busboy was actively cleaning up. Yeah we waited about 20 minutes for a table. When seated our waitress informed us that the kitchen shut down to "catch up" for the next minutes so she would return. She came back in about 15 minutes to take our orders. We never saw her again until it was time to bring the check.
Food: I ordered the fried chicken tacos, and a swordfish taco. The chicken was freshly cooked but lacked flavor. The sauce that topped it did not help. The swordfish taco was overly fishy. The pickled radish added a nice kick but the powerful fish mostly over took it. The child had a poached chicken taco. She ate it with no problem so I assume that's what I should of ordered. All the other adults concurred that there was nothing special or "holy about their tacos. The table ordered steak tacos, chicken, corn on the cob and quesadillas. No one was impressed, at all.
Seating Horrors: I sit outside to dine all of the time. Seriously I have never experienced such a bug problem. There were large flies, mosquito's, bees, gnats and ants. All insects were on major attack mode. It was almost impossible to enjoy a drink let alone enjoy a plate of food. I ate with my face/body over my plate and ate so quickly I'm surprised I didn't vomit. But it may have enhanced the experience. Ok, I'm starting to itch just writing this. A simple solution would be bug spray and citronella candles.
Unfortunately, this will not be a place that...
Read moreI'm honestly mad that I see really good reviews for this place. It's been 2mo since I ate here and I get pretty annoyed thinking about my experience here. I am a lover of Taco's (once shifting the focus of an entire trip to LA to finding the best Taco's). After working a monster 48 hour session my wife and I went to Holy Taco.
The service was immediate and they were not busy. I asked if the meals came with Chips and they said you have to pay for chips and salsa. To me that doesn't always signal a red flag but we saw the prices of Taco's and flinched. They were a bit pricey but I saw good reviews and figured they must be really good. I convinced my wife to stay, we ordered drinks and two tacos each and chicken for my kid. My wife ordered a side of rice and beans. I got chips and salsa.
We waited forever... The salsa came and it was so freakin bland!!! So mild!! No flavor!! just crushed tomatos. My 1yo ate some and never dipped another chip in it. I added some Chilula. When our Tacos came they had a Pinch of Meat in the center. The corn tortillas were dry... and also cold. Because I had not eaten all day I tried it. Bland and the fish that should have been fried was moist and breading falling apart, not crispy.
I looked around for Salt and pepper but apparantly someone thinks the food is better unaltered because they put enough seasoning on it. My Wife was mad. I told her I didn't feel like complaining because we waited so long. The Rice and Beans was nasty and bland...... The only tasty thing on the table was my sons chicken thing.
The worst part of it all is when the waiter came back and gave me a $27 check...... For what??!!! The food is absolutely horrible. I'm mad just seeing anyone else liked it. Maybe you just waited for me? Did you want me and only me to have bad tacos? or are the tacos always this bad and...
Read moreService was pretty good. The waitor Def made sure we were well taken care of and checked up us pretty often. But not in an annoying way. Super friendly and attentive. As far as the drinks. We both ordered the hibiscus margaritas. The flavor was a solid 4 out of 5 stars. Def didnt get us tipsy at all. We are light weights even. Could've used more liquor to say the least. It was yummy tho. Guacamole was not good. Never had a fluffy Guacamole. It was overly seasoned with either garlic or onion powder. Solid 2 out of 5. We also had the barria tacos. First timers here and I was soooo underwhelmed by the lack of flavor. No way did I image barria tacos would taste so bland. The over seasoned Guacamole Def made up for the lack of flavor provided by the infamous barria tacos. I'd like to try them again maybe somewhere else to really be a judge whether or not barria tacos are yummy. They looked good tho. We also had the grilled chicken tacos on corn tortillas. Now this one was not very good at all. Lacked flavor. Moisture, as well as structure. We used the consomme' from the barria tacos for flavoring but that did absolutely nothing. The over seasoned Guacamole couldn't even helped those guys out. Last but not least, we tried the elote. We prompted to get the corn cut off the Cobb. The presentation was really nice but again, lacked flavor. The corn had char on the kernels which was nice but did not have the flavor as if it was actually chared on grill. No smokieness no nothing. Rather, just burned with a blow torch or something to create the idea of it being charred. Wasn't very authentic at all. Kinda disappointed in the overall experience. Best part I would say was our s3rvice. The guy was pretty cool. He saved the day for outer Holy Taco experience. Def won't be recommending...
